During all the time I've been on CC, I've noticed that many of us have extremely pathetic Key Clubs. I rarely hear someone say that their Key Club is really awesome and they do a lot of activities. My own isn't that great, poor advisor, not a lot of participation. What I want to know is, are there any CC-ers who have really good Key Clubs at their school? And if so, what makes it good? How can others make theirs better? Some advice for kids like me would be fantastic.

Our Key Club is freaking awesome. We have great leaders running the club and an awesome advisor. I’m the secretary We have a lot of activities planned out that the members can volunteer at. We also have a halloween party, christmas party, etc. We communicate really well with the Kiwanas club and help them with a lot of their projects and they donate money to our club.

Key Club is mainly student run–much depends on the students themselves. Allow the club to have many leadership positions so everyone can have their own job and do it well. The president is the most important of them all… You need a great one that coordinates the others to find service events, create fundraisers/activities/etc, hold monthly board meetings so everyone can work together and is on par with their duties and keep up active communication maybe even have a special forums, share emails, utilize social networking. You can’t have lazy officers who do things like forget to submit dues or keep in contact with the adults of the community they’re working with etc.

A driving force is a sense of unity, inclusiveness, and a general drive to help out the community. Recruit lots of members at club rush–don’t be race specific (my club is mostly Asians)–and let them participate in special bonding and hanging out. To be a successful club, everyone or a significant amount of people have to be into it and your division / district that you are in also plays somewhat a role but not too much as what you can get your school to do as a club.
