I will be taking the SAT again in October and I have to improve my 1810 score [M 520, CR 700, W 590, E 8].

Obviously my CR is my best section and I would love to bring it up some more but I am content with the 700. I am frustrated because I can't seem to get them higher. I have done ok in previous math classes I have only received B's and I came very close to having a C this past semester, all of this with a lot of hard work. It just doesn't come easily to me, specifically I am very very slow.

I am not sure why the writing is so poor, I do well in all of my English classes and average A's on papers. I think again it is the time thing, I usually spend hours writing papers and I can't just throw one on the page.

I have done nearly all of the math practice tests in the blue book with the guidance of a tutor, I am going to go back through the tests to work thoroughly on the writing sections.

I need all the advice/tips I can get to improve on these sections. Is an hour a day until the test enough to make a difference?

edit: Shoot I mean't to put this in the SAT Prep section....

depends on a lot of factors. How much to you want to improve by? All 700+? How fast of a learner are you? The amount of time you spend prepping is all up to you. I’m personally not really spending much time prepping except for taking one practice test a week and seeing how I do. (Which usually takes maybe 4 hours tops) Also, you should definitely be able to bring your writing score up, since it seems that your MC score would be what’s dragging your score down. I don’t really have any suggestions for books, but I know that practice makes perfect, so you have the right idea going through problems in the BB. As for math…I really have no idea, except same as writing: practice. CR it seems that you are fine, and it is around the same score that I get, so I need help in that section as much as you.

I would love to get my writing into the 700’s (I think this is reasonable with a 690) and my math into the 600’s preferably 650 if I can manage it.

Writing an essay in English is nothing like on the SAT!
I got a 7 last time, and then a 10 (with a worse essay, I think, by following the guide on of these threads)

let me see if i can find it for you…

Thanks! I used that method with my last SAT and got the 8 up from a 6, I guess I just have to work at it some more.

bump, anyone have any more tips?
