Improving My Application to Cornell

I currently am a junior in high school, and I would appreciate it if you guys would help me improve/build up my application to Cornell.

No preparation:
June 3 2006 SAT: M 670 CR 520 W 530

Avg. Practice Tests after June 3 SAT:
M 710 CR 580 W 710

GPA: 4.64 (5.0 scale) 3.712(4.0 scale)

AP Computer Science A: 4
AP World History: 3

Clubs:
Mu Alpha Theta
Chess Club(Secretary)

Extracurricular Activities:
Programming: C++, Java
Community Service with Campus Watch(70 hours) for 7th and 8th grade
Working at a small company that puts my programming skills to practice since 9th grade.

Major:
Computer Science

============================================
What do you guys feel is the first thing I need to improve?

Test scores.

And more ECs, maybe. Community service earlier than 9th grade ususally isn't considered.

Thank you. I am already planning to retake the SAT in October.

Since I am a junior, I know I can definitely raise my SAT scores. I also plan to join Key Club for Community Service.

Thank you everyone for all your help. We will continue to work on my application so that it can be free of anything in my power that would undermine my chances of being considered by the admission officers.

UPDATE*
October SAT Scores:
620 CR
710 M
700 W
=======
2030

I am going to try the ACT in December just to see if I score higher.

here's a recommendation: take the test in january, it's easier then. people will tell you i'm ridiculous, but it just is.

but yea if you can increase your scores like 150-200 points that'd be good.

grades are decent

are you taking any other APs? how many does your school offer? if it offers more and your not taking them, you need to. a solid curriculum is extremely important.

are you a minority?

athlete?

if none of these things, you need a hook besides the key club. i would tie your computer programming skills into some sort of community service project. i saw that you worked for a company since 9th grade and practice programming, use that. you need something to put in your essays and application that makes you fit. find a program at cornell that works with what your passionate about and go with it.

Early Scores:

31.25 Composite
_31 E
_36 M
_30 R
_28 S

I am pleased, but I will be retaking in June.

UPDATE*
December 2006
Math I: 740
May seem low, but I am taking Math II in June when I finish my Pre-calculus course. :)

more focused, meaningful EC to boost your chance.

Thank you and I will start doing that.

I have a question about the essay length.
For example, if the length is 500 words and I write 400 words, would I be looked down upon because I did not say "enough"? How many words would it be advisable to write in this situation?

add your math+cr score thast the main score they will look at. The writing is just something for them to see, and on your sat 1's it seems to be helping your score alot. SAT 2 Math 1c is equivalent to SAT 1 math, so much schools dont like it/dont accept it. Make sure you take 2c, and another SAT 2.

Your scores are not bad at all anymore...but you must make the rest of your application very good. You should improve your ECs and write very, very compelling essays.

If you think you'll do much better, then take the SATs, at most, one more time. Personally, I think you're better off working on the other parts of your application at the moment. Get great SAT II scores. You still have lots of time to do all this, but good luck!

****UPDATE*******
5 Semester GPA: 4.739

6 Semester GPA: 4.7394.87
June 9th 2006

E 32(+1)
M 33(-3){Did not even finish...}
R 28(-2)
S 30(+2)

SScore
C 32
E 32
M 36
R 30
S 30

It looks as if my scores are good enough as a 32 is in the 99 percentile. :)
What do you guys think?

****UPDATE*******
June 2007 SAT II Subject Tests
Chemistry 750
Mathematics Level 2 770

Are these scores competitive enough?

and 32 on the ACT is only the 75 percentile for cornell.

p.s. i love how you were awake at 5 AM for your scores :-) i almost did the same.

Dande1114, where did you obtain these percentiles?

is Cornell really that easy to get into?
