the question is:
A RECENT DISCOVERY IS THE FINDING THAT people who both drink and smoke are greater cancer risks than those who do only one of these things.

a) A recent discovery is the finding that
b) A recent discovery came when they learned that
c) Recently, a finding is that
d) It has recently been discovered that
e) It is a recent discovery that

That answer is D...but I don't get why E is wrong. Can somebody please explain...thanks!

In the original sentence discovery is a noun and finding is the verb used to introduce, but it is too wordy. However if you choose E you take out the verb that suggests finding. Therefore D is correct because it uses discover as the main verb. I'm not an English whiz so anyone else can correct me, but I'm usually good at sentence completion.
