My S21 has been cruising along with a A- in honors geometry for most of this semester. In an effort to raise his grade he has been seeing the teacher for help after class twice a week. Still he has been getting mid to high B’s on the exams. His teacher doesn’t seem overly concerned. Specifically, she says that he understands the material but it may be more related to his test taking skills. So my question is how to sharpen test taking skills/strategies? Any feedback is appreciated.
You might want to go to the ACT/SAT Prep forums on this site and look at the pinned threads for the Xiggi method and Silverturtle’s method.Those are for SAT/ACT but will probably translate well for certain types of tests.
Start with trying to determine exactly what the issues are. Did he run out of time? Make minor errors due to sloppiness? Have questions he didn’t understand at all? If she has returned the exams, look them over with him and discuss them. Be clear that you are trying to analyze the situation together and not trying to castigate or stress him out. Get back to us.
