This is a discussion for people applying to IMSA for the Class of 2018. Feel free to post about your chances, questions, comments, concerns, or other things you may want to post relating to IMSA. For those of you who don't know, IMSA stands for the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and is known nationally for excellence and people like Steve Chen and a founder of PayPal is a part of the alumni.

Also, check out this thread from last year. Many IMSA applicants were discussing here throughout the application process and it’s really helped a lot of people! This post is just a part 2 since people have requested a new thread.

Hi! I’m applying to IMSA this year, I’m a freshman and have a pretty good sat score so far. 710 in Math and 630 Reading.

@priyaluvsbooks Great! Those are some excellent SAT scores, now I think it really just comes down to grades and extra-curriculars. I will be taking my SAT in December, Good luck!

Thanks! Have you given the sat yet?

I did this January, I got very low scores, but, I didn’t really study so much. I need to get a good SAT score and improve grades this semester and I should be good to go! @priyaluvsbooks

Ohmygod yes. My grades this semester are surprisingly low at the moment.

@priyaluvsbooks What are they? Also, what did you have last year when you applied to IMSA?

um…
AP Hum: 87.57% Hon. Alg 2/Trig - 89.59% Hon. English - 97.64% Hon. Biology- 93%
So B’s and A’s…Meh…I had all A’s for 7th. 8th and 6th grade last year when I Applied. What about you?

Here’s a question- are you a guy? and do you by any chance go to school in 204 (district)

@priyaluvsbooks Yea, I’m a guy. I don’t go to D204, I have about the same grades but I’m in geometry and physics. I could’ve taken biology but I’m not so interested in it.

Yeah, I figured. It would be soo weird if we secretly knew each other though… XD

@priyaluvsbooks what extracurriculars have you done or currently doing?

I do a lot of stuff…
Math and Science:
1.) FLL Robotics, 8th grade, 5 hrs/week
2.) Robotics Team, 9th grade 3 hrs/week
3.) Math team, 7th,8th and 9th grades 2 hrs/week
4.) Stem Club, 6, 7, 8th grades 1 hrs/week
5.) Science Olympiad, 9th Grade 1 hrs/week
6.) I-Stem, 9th Grade 1 hrs/week
7.) Summer Sleuths, 6 & 7& 8th grade (1 week over summer)
8.) Summer@IMSA 3 & 4& 5 grade
…
and um… I do Tennis, Speech, Debate, Singing … that’s it
What about you?

I also gave my SAT test on Saturday (the 11th). When are you giving yours?

@priyaluvsbooks Wow, I don’t know how you wouldn’t be admitted into IMSA. You already have strong SAT scores and pretty good grades. I would be surprised if you didn’t make it. I am doing science olympiad, track, FBLA, 8th Grade Fluid Power Challenge, yearbook club for one year, student council for one year. I would do the activities like what you are doing, such as robotics and debate, but my school doesn’t offer anything like that. I really want to get into robotics but with the resources I have access to, I am unable to do so.

I am taking the SAT in December or January.

@priyaluvsbooks make sure to check out the other thread that I posted here. That was last year’s admissions and you can see other people’s credentials and see if they got in or not.

I already saw that @kidfood thx tho

thanks! you should sign up for the november one as well, as we can only take the sat 3 more times this year. besides october
