IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

@yka101‌ Yeah they always upload them around 5 AM central time. I checked I got 680 math 580 reading 530 writing. Decent scores and my reading got higher than any my practice tests so I’m happy! I think sat wise I’m safe if anything.

arghh I just checked again and it says the same thing (:expressionless: I’ve waited an entire month and I can’t wait anymore. my patience is wearing off. grrr

@AviSaxena33‌ YAAAAAAY you’ve improved! Yeah, I’d say you’re definitely safe for SATs. You’ve also got good extracurriculars. I need to work on that part. Do you know if they’ll count sports in the application?

@yka101‌ See what I dislike is that they give you unlimited amounts of activities related to math science and tech, but only 3 max for any other activity so I can’t put all my sports and stuff, although, I do have many math science and tech extras so that’s good. Then again, you are in 8th grade so they probably won’t expect science oly which is usually a high school thing alongside scholastic bowl, etc.

okay that’s good @AviSaxena33‌ thankfully, I only need one space for sport haha. But I just found out I got 660 Math, 580 Writing, and 490 Reading. I reallyyy need to improve on my reading(I’m aiming for 700s I hope) and math(aiming above 700). Honestly, with all of my racticing, I thought I could’ve improved by more. And I went down in my reading. :(((

@yka101‌ Honestly, it’s extremely hard to get in as an 8th grader. Take in account average sat scores from freshman which are 660 math and 610 reading. You must get over them both for starters, how much you get over them will be extra. Now for a goal, you are fine in math by the way and writing is irrelevant, but for reading, if you reach a high 500 or 600 even, you are golden for 9th grade. But keep studying!

@AviSaxena33 I would suggest you give it once more. As you have achieved a combined score of 1260. And the average for Indians who make it in is roughly 1400.

Idk about that, because I acheived a 710 and 630, but I still didn’t make it in.

Thanks  @AviSaxena33‌ I hope I can do a whole lot better by studying harder. I know that there is a small chance of me getting in as an eighth grader, but I strive to focus on the little possibility that serves as my motivation. Perhaps the reason I am so desperate is the fact that if I don’t get in I will be forced to move out of state, or in the state if I am lucky. I have been fighting this move for six years now, and it would kill me to lose the life I’ve built for myself over these eleven years. I just need to work harder than I’ve ever possibly imagined, and then perhaps I’ll get in. But I’m trying to keep my fingers crossed.

I’m still surprised you didn’t make it in @priyaluvsbooks‌ that is an outstanding score

yeah @priyaluvsbooks‌ I’ll take it again in January. Hopefully I can achieve the reading average…

@yka101 thanks. Didn’t get me what I wanted though so…>.<

Could anyone help me on these questions?

 1. Does IMSA not consider SAT writing score or is it CR and writing combined? They only mention about CR and Math scores.
 2. If ACT score is used for the application, what are the average or cutoff breakdowns of each subject score?
 3. How long the SAT scores are valid for the application?
 4. What are the chances for an applicant with decent(good) GPA and SAT/ACT test score but no other attractive activity or award?

@opreader‌ 1) Only sat math and cr but you probably want to do good on the writing for future purposes and it’s not really difficult 2) ACT is not used 3) I believe the sat scores from this year from the october to the january test are valid more info on the website is available 4) Average gpa was 3.92-4 and sat math was 670 and cr was 610. W/O activities and awards at all, it’s really difficult, but I can’t really say.

imsa’s selection process is pretty unprecendented, if you ask me. i know a girl who got accepted as an 8th grader with SAT Math:680
SAT Reading: 630
and she got accepted. except priya had higher scores and didn’t get accepted. and although extracurriculars factor in, it still seems weird to me.

I know exactly why priya didn’t get accepted with those scores. 1) 8th grade but she had great scores 2) she lives in aurora 3) she’s indian @yka101‌

@yka101‌ Coming back to demographics, I hope that aids me in my selection this year. #palatine #crookcounty

whatever. I’m actually sorta happy about the fact that I didn’t go to IMSA in 8th grade, because my high school itself is so much fun right now. I’m in so many clubs that I wouldn’t be able to participate in at IMSA. For example, Speech. Imsa has a speech team, but its so BAD that its like… just no.

@priyaluvsbooks‌ That’s a reason why I think a lot of 8th graders decline after getting accepted anyway. Not only do you miss out on some great events, clubs, and moments, but you’re also being asked to skip a highschool grade, your first highschool grade

@AviSaxena33‌ yeah the other girl was an eighth grader too, but with worse scores. aaand the other girl was indian too. idk i think it’s probably their essays and where they live like you said hahaha.
