Hey whats up guys, IMSA sophomore here! I have a while until my next class starts, so Im doing an AMA with my quad mates for next year. Ask away and we’ll give you honest answers unburdened by the bourgeois scum that is administration.

@HooHah05 What is the hardest thing about living at IMSA?

Can I answer? I would probably say stress and sleep deprivation caused by the workload

@HooHah05 do you love yourself?

The hardest thing about IMSA…I think that it’s different for a lot of people. In some scenarios people are overwhelmed by the workload, however, there are some people who push their work off until like 12 because they love being around their friends and therefore push off work. Some people hate being at IMSA (res life) because they miss their homes. Some people wish that they did things differently. All of these are challenges that people face here, however they are not things that you won’t be able to overcome! I know personally for me it was coming to terms with the people here coming from amazing schools and programs that allowed them to succeed relatively easily compared to some others. There are a lot of things you will learn about yourself when you come to IMSA.

@HooHah05 Hey I’m really nervous about getting my letter. I applied with fairy good grades and GPA, but my brother applied two years ago with a little better grades and scores and got denied. I got a 4.0 GPA and 760 math, but only 710 for reading and I did really bad on writing and only got a 680. Please let me know if I still have a chance. Thanks I am super excited for this opportunity.

@dwightkmclovin IMSA does not only look at grades if you have decent essays and good letters from your teachers plus your grades and scores (they really don’t care about writing that much) you should have a good chance at getting in. Trust me, I got much, much worse on my SAT and I got in, don’t focus all of your attention on the numbers.

@ShivironiPats and other current IMSA students: I am just curious. On average, how many hours of homework do you do every night at IMSA? Thanks!

@ShivironiPats Okay thanks. I feel a lot better knowing that.

@junebee It really just depends on the night, last night I had barely an hour, last week on one day I had like 4 hours. It depends on what class your taking and what you have going on. You can’t really get an average because some days you’ll have an essay a test and a problem set, other days you’ll just have a worksheet or two. This is for sophomores, i don’t really want to talk about what my juniors are going through lol.

@junebee I’m an sophomore currently, and it mostly depends on what time it is, what teachers you have, and what classes you’re taking. Sometimes I get like an hour of homework and then other days I get slammed with papers and projects (usually at the end of quarters).

What are these infamous problem sets?

@bluehorse123 …they are given to you every week. They consist of anywhere from 15-20 problems that can range in difficulty. They are meant to teach you simple concepts outside of class so that they don’t have to be taught in class, therefore making the math classes much more condensed (1 semester, instead of 2). The reason why they are so infamous is because many people start them the night before, or even the day of. We have a lot of work and thus problem sets are the maraschino cherry on top of the sundae of work…

@balloony There are quite a few answers to that question depending on what kind of person you are. It could be that you miss your family, it could be the challenge of the curriculum, it could be the shattering of the dreams you’ve had your entire life and crippling depression due to the insane stress ( jk, jk), your roommate could be terrible. There are a lot of possibilities. But for me it was the agonizing stress I had to face in some classes.

@BigDaddyWalt I hate myself sometimes, especially in some classes where I don’t entirely know whats going on. But I generally try to love myself twice a day just to keep me from falling into the pit of despair that is school here
