@spoonfulofpi It wasn’t too hard for me to get adjusted academically but I’m probably overqualified because I was accepted from eighth grade. Some of my friends have had difficulties with academics, but your teachers, friends, and upperclassmen are there to help so reaching out is always a good idea. I-day study sessions are also helpful.
I use a dell laptop, which was a bit expensive but I would suggest not buying the IMSA laptop because it’s not worth the price unless they’ve made major upgrades this year.
@birdie02 I’m in orchestra this year and honestly the music program isn’t the best. There are 2 orchestras that count as classes, string orchestra is lower level and chamber is higher. You have to audition before the school year starts, but sometimes which one you end up in is decided by schedule conflicts instead of skill. There’s also a strolling strings group which is extracurricular and does concerts outside of school often.
As for clubs, there’s a huge variety at IMSA. We have a few culture clubs that do dances and performances throughout the year (I suggest doing at least one, practices are stressful but it’s a lot of fun), there’s language clubs, video game clubs, technology and coding clubs, chess team, robotics, and a ton of other stuff. There is a club fair in the beginning of the year where you can see what’s offered, and I would suggest trying a lot of clubs that look interesting. Just make sure to settle with a few that you’re really interested in so you don’t overcrowd your schedule.
Heyy does their orchestra go on trips? like my school is planning on going to spain soon, also how hard is it to get into chamber as a cellist?
is leaving fridays after school easy? can you just get signed out or is it a whole process?

@xjayy13 I don’t think the orchestra really goes on trips, but this is my first year in it so take it with a grain of salt. This year only one of the auditioning sophomore cellists were put into chamber, but next year there should be less cellos in the orchestra, which will hopefully decrease competition.

@cringemaster Leaving on Fridays is pretty easy. The first few weeks you’re their you can’t sign out because they want you to get used to IMSA, but after that it’s pretty easy. You just bring your parents to the RC office and tell them you’re checking out for the weekend.
