IMSA Applicant Class of 2020

Do I have enough extra curricular activities and awards?
Activities: Math Team, WYSE Team(Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering), Science Olympiad, and Scholastic Bowl.
Awards: Voted math student of the year and I have the presidential award for educational excellence.

@cringemaster IMSA will give you 4 for A and 3 for B no matter if it was AP or just a regular class. A- will give you 4, but B+ will give you 3. Also only Math, Science and English matter

@XxSwegLordxX If you do not blow up your EIP evaluation you will be fine with this extra curricular. You can not change it anyway, so I would not worry about it. Just do you best in EIP.

@TheNewmanry I’m not sure if they’ve changed the application, but I’m pretty sure you still have to answer all four essay questions.

@TheNewmanry I’m applying this year and was told that you have to answer all four questions.

Is anybody coming to preview day on the 4th?

@javascript Have you started your essays yet?

@XxSwegLordxX Not yet, I had them done last year, have to start over this year…

@javascript I only did the first one and I think it turned out better than I thought it would. I think I will have the biggest trouble with the community service project one though.

i’m asian and from plainfield. i want to join computer club and be able to put that on my application, but i didn’t take programming. i’ve been trying to learn python by myself and it’s a little rough haha.

i really don’t know how to use this website but the above reply was for @corrjayna

Does anyone know how much the sat essay score effects your application?

@caressmytoenails Hi! I am applying for class of 2020 and i was wondering if you could tell me my chances of being accepted and give me suggestions on what I can do better. Thanks (:

Has that “Decisions” tab on the admissions dashboard always been there? For some reason I feel like i’ve never seen it before.

@XxSwegLordxX yes it is new, I suppose we will be able to see the decision online which will be faster

Where is the decisions tab? Is it in the application itself or on the imsa website?

In the application

I want to start by congratulating everybody who was accepted into the class of 2019.
As an eighth-grader, I took BC Calc at my high school and later scored a 5 on the AP exam.
Additionally, I scored 2320 on the SAT last November (800 M, 750 CR, 770 W).
Last year, as a freshman, I took multi-variable calculus and Diff EQs at Stevenson.
I was also an eighth-grade and freshman USAJMO qualifier, and I was accepted to Phillips Exeter, but my parents decided it was too pricey.
I have a 4.8 GPA after taking AP Bio, AP Lit, APUSH, AP COMPSCI, and AP French freshman year.
I scored a 4 or 5 on every AP test.
Unfortunately, I was not accepted to IMSA.
I don’t want this to discourage anybody, but I would like everybody planning on applying to work harder and realize that there is no way to guarantee acceptance.
I would also like everyone to realize that no matter what school they go to, they can be successful.

Salutations!
I am a current seventh grader and I’m pursuing acceptance as a member of the prestigious Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Class of 2020 (Just like my vision). I am currently 11 years old, I skipped the 2rd grade as I found the course work to be incredibly easy, as my mental capacity and knowledge was far more advanced than my peers.

I know I may materialize as a sapling in the vast forest of knowledge; however, my mental capacity is incredibly vast which is why I plan to attend the ubiquitous Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.

Here are some of my statistics:
-I took the old SAT last year, as a 6th grader and received a nearly impeccable score. I received a 800 math, 790 reading, 760 writing. I plan to take it again this December.
-I have not yet taken any AP exams, but I plan to take the AP Computer Science, AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, and AP German exams in the coming months. I will surely receive a 5 on all of these exams.
-I am a master linguist, as I am fluent in English (obviously), German, French, Spanish, Latin, Romanian. As you can see, I am a huge fan of Indo-European languages.
-In addition to being avant-garde in the field of academics. I excel in all aspects of physical activity. I play a multitude of sports, including cricket, racquetball, tennis, badminton, and lacrosse. Outside of these sports, I am quite fit and am working on obtaining a six-pack.
-I have also been a finalist in the Scripps National Spelling Bee the past 2 years, unfortunately I have not yet won the competition.
-I am taking many advanced level courses at my nearby college. I am currently in multivariable calculus, biology (anatomy and physiology), and other such courses.
-My teachers will indubitably give me flawless recommendations, as I am their favorite student.
-I have received many mathematics and science awards, both nationally and on the state level.
-The only area I am lacking in is the field of music. I only play the cello and piano. I am quite good at both, but am not a master at either.

What do you believe my chances at receiving admission to the Academy are?

Also, @SaltyPeanuts you seem to be pretty qualified. However, I am sure the Academy denied you for a reason. Your essays or teacher recommendations must have been subpar.

As an Academy attendee,

What I did is I just showed up on move-in day and they let me in. I didn’t apply or anything, they just had an extra spot. I did not know it was a mathematics and science academy, I just knew it was a selective school near my house. It’s been a little bit of a surprise, but overall okay.
