IMSA Applicant Class of 2022

@brinaz03 Did you receive an interview?

First of all, congrats to everyone who applied. What you did was brave and you should be proud. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist. Congrats to everyone who made it as well. I’m in 8th currently and my letter didn’t say anything about if I made it to class of 2022(I wouldn’t have wanted to skip 9th anyways). Does anyone know what deferred to class of 2023 mean? It’s not acceptance, reject or waitlist. It says they believe I would do better if I went to my local high school to do 9th grade there.

@brinaz03 ^^ those are my stats (Not very good though)

@QuizBowl73 omg congrats!! what are your stats? that is so amazing.

@Limelight101 I would say that your application is strong, but the only area that needs improvement is your SAT score. Try to get your score to a 1300 or above and you should be fine. I would say that you shouldn’t worry about the interview, you will be perfectly fine without it. BTW, when you applied this year did you have a high school science course?

@QuizBowl73 deferred to class of 2023 simply means that you will be taking freshman year at your local high school, while you are enrolled and accepted for the IMSA class of 2023 as a sophomore under the fact that you can still maintain your grades freshman year at good standards. This is a great thing and you should be proud of it, you are simply going to IMSA without skipping a grade for the class of 2023.

@Tandoorhut That is exactly what my parents also said. BTW, Yes, I did.

Also, are there any stylistic ways to write the essays or really make yourself seem unique from other applicants?

@Limelight101 Just keep working hard and you should have no probably getting in! Don’t let the fact that you didn’t get an interview deter you from success.

@Limelight101 As far as your stats go, your grades and extracurriculars seem fine and IMSA worthy, but I think where you could improve is your SAT Score. Next year, try to boost it a little higher and that will greatly increase your odds for being accepted. Also, your essays are a big part of your application, so try to make those better. What classes are you taking this year? That could also affect your acceptance likelihood. All in all, I think just a little improvement in certain areas could get you accepted to IMSA for next year.

@Tandoorhut Thank you so much. I’m trying my best to get over it and focus on how to improve.

@Limelight101 do you have a discord by chance? I can show you my essays that got me accepted and maybe you can use them as examples.

@Limelight101 I think that IMSA doesn’t have a set criteria to receive an interview, they might randomly pick appliants, so you shouldn’t be worrying.

@CoDeR360 Yes! I will definitely work on increasing my SAT scores. The classes I am currently taking are Algebra 1 honors, ELA honors, Biology through an online school, eighth-grade social studies, Spanish 1, and Chorus.
For freshman year I am planning on taking: English 1 honors, Biology Honors, AP Human Geo, Spanish 2 honors, and Algebra 2 honors

@CoDeR360 I would appreciate and love to read them, that would help so much! But unfortunately, I do not have a discord. I wish there was another way I could read them!

@Limelight101 All of that sounds extremely solid for IMSA, but if I may ask, you have already taken biology during 8th grade, so why take it again during freshman year?

@Limelight101, is there any other way of contact you have that you would be okay with using?

About 3-4 kids from my high school got waitpooled at IMSA, so would this affect chances of getting out of the waitpool?

@CoDeR360 Thank you! I am taking it again freshman year so I am strong in biology as it is a fundamental and important course. My family suggested AP Biology but as a freshman, but I wanted to balance out my courses so I wouldn’t be stressed. Plus, to be honest, I don’t really know what else I could take. Any comments or opinions? I will not judge and feel free to say anything!
