What’s a change that you didn’t expect when you moved into IMSA?
There were a lot of things! I definitely was not anticipating the workload. Coming from middle school, I was used to doing maybe two hours of homework per night at most, whereas at IMSA, I might have 5+ hours depending on the day. You have to be extremely disciplined and use your time after school wisely. However, something I also did not expect was the amazing bonds you can make, not only with your own class, but with the juniors and seniors as well. I’ve gotten closer to people at IMSA in 6 months than with people I’ve known for 8 years. Something about living together and going through the struggles together creates the best friendships. I think the phrase, “You come to IMSA for the education, you stay for the people” sums it up perfectly.
What’s some advice that you’d give to the future incoming class of 2023 that you would’ve wished you would have known?
@coco133 , What were your stats like?
I was deferred last year for the class of 2023. I had straight A’s this year so I should be fine right?
As long as you show the same effort that you had last year, then you should be fine.
I wish I knew that asking teachers or peers for help was not a sign that I was dumb, it showed that I cared about doing well and I was being challenged. I had never needed to ask for help on assignments before IMSA, but all of a sudden there were things I didn’t understand and it was scary. However, there are so many people at IMSA that are super willing to help you with absolutely anything. I thought IMSA would be super competitive, but everyone just genuinely wants to see each other succeed.
I’m a girl, caucasian, from a semi-competitive school district, had a 4.0 all through middle school. My SAT was 1420, 730 Reading and 690 Math. As far as extracurriculars, I danced competitively for 10 years and I created a science bowl team at my school. I did a bunch of science summer camps, in addition to Summer@IMSA. I had good teacher recs and I think my essays were a big factor in my getting in. I think in shmen they are mainly looking for signs in your essays and optional statement that you are mature enough to live on your own.
Doesn’t deferred mean you have a seat reserved in the class of 2023 without the need for applying again?
Does anyone think that IMSA applications are coming today?
The past few years they have come out on the 27th so maybe tomorrow?
Has anyone heard anything yet?
No, I’m getting very impatient xD. At this point, I have probably checked my email 100 times.
Well, tomorrow’s the big day. Good luck to you all!
