QUESTIONS:
1. How hard is it to transfer into the business-finance major at U of I? My mom went there 20 years ago, immigrated, went to community college in U.S., and transfered to U of I with a 3.7 gpa. I heard that I have to get straight A's, write essays, and join clubs. Do I really have to do all that? Can I just get good grades and be done with it? or do i have to like write essays and stuff? How hard is it to transfer?

When will I get U of I scholarships? Will I even get any?

When I am in General Studies at U of I, what happens if I cant get into the Business school at U of I? Do I stay at that General Studies major???

What do I do in General Studies, is this like a major?...??

Not easy to transfer to business. You will have one and only one oppurtunity to do so-- after freshman year – and high grades are needed although not necessarily all A’s, transfer application does require essays, and getting high grades, writing good essays, or being in clubs does not guarantee a transfer because the school, unlike the other colleges, does not take many transfers from other colleges at UIUC.

Likely notified March but by April 1. No certainty to get any.

3 and 4. The General Studies Division is not one with majors. Its objective is to get rid of you by having you transfer by end of sophomore year to another college and major. Thus, you essentially take courses to meet gen ed requirements and requirements to allow transfer into a particular major in another college that might interest you. It is easy to transfer into most majors in the A&S college; it is also fairly easy to transfer to engineering as long as you meet minimum course and GPA requirements (usually 3.0 or higher).

thank you so much drusba, that really helped a lot!

just to be clear, is it a good thing that I am in General Studies?(since they are trying to get rid of me, does that make it easier to transfer into Biz?) and in order to transfer from Gen. Studies into the business major, all I need are good grades? Joining clubs, writing essays are not required?
