in a perfect world scenario...

Hey guys,

Just wondering in an imaginary scenario--if you receive a full-tuition scholarship from a college, then receive ALOT of outside scholarships that not only covers all the R&B and fees do you get all the remaining amount as pocket money or do you not get to keep it???

ps. I didn't receive any scholarships but was just wondering...haha

Keep in mind that all monies above tuition and books are considered taxable income

Would the scholarship be based on financial need? Many outside scholarships will reduce your NEED and FA will go down. That depends on the school. You would have to ask them.

Hmmm…didn’t consider that. I guess there is no free lunch.

Some schools will allow you to reduce the gap in your financial aid package. However, most outside scholarships first reduce the self help portion (student loans and work study) of your financial aid package. Then they will reduce the need based institutional aid given. You would need outside scholarships that would essentially cover your whole cost of attendance to make your scenario work (you would still be responsible for the taxes).

Scholarship gives you the opportunity to continue toward your goal. College students who receive generous scholarship opportunities are relieved of some of the financial burden for school fees.
I am honored to have received scholarships from the College and able to take care of my college bills.
