In a pickle.

I applied to my top choice SCEA and was accepted. I sent the CSS Profile out in October, as well as a NCP Profile waiver request. However, when I got my acceptance envelope in the mail, the financial aid letter said they needed the NCP Profile.

I called to see if they'd never gotten the request, and found out that it had just been misplaced. I was told the request had to be approved by the full committee, and to just wait until I was contacted. Well, over a week later I haven't heard anything. I called again but their offices are closed and won't open until the 2nd.

I don't know what to do. A lot of application deadlines will have passed if I wait to hear back or call on the 2nd. However, this is my top-choice school and if the request is accepted I'll get the best financial aid out of any school (probably a full ride). I don't have other applications filled out because I wasn't planning on applying anywhere else if I got in, and I don't have the money to send out scores to all my colleges, especially if it turns out financial aid comes through.

But, if the request doesn't get accepted, I'll have to apply elsewhere, as there's no way I can get the NCP Profile filled out. I really don't know what to do.

SCEA means that you do not have to commit to the school until May 1. You may not even get a financial aid package until the spring. I would recommend doing the rest of your applications (most of the deadlines are not until 12/31 and 1/2/2013 so there is still time). THis way if your waiver is not approved or the financial aid package is not doable for your family that you will still have options. Hopefully your are also applying to places where you stand a good chance of getting merit $

Yes to Sybbie.

Get those other apps in ASAP.

You have no idea if your NCP waiver will be approved. You need to also quickly apply to schools that won’t require NCP info and will give you lots of need based aid (USC and Vandy don’t require NCP info.) You should also apply to schools that will give you huge merit for your stats.

Absolutely get those apps out before the deadlines. As Sybbie and Mom2collegekids have said, there is no guarantee that the NCP waiver will be approved. SCEA is not restrictive for EA so you are fine. Where some may have problems is when things like this happen and they are applying ED. You are in the clear. I also concur that some schools where NCP info is not needes should be on your list and EVERYONE should have at least one option where acceptance is pretty much given and the school is affordable without contingencies. Sometimes things don’t pan out when it comes to acceptances and money.
