In a state of shock

So a few minutes ago I went to my e-mail inbox and saw “Congratulations from Amhe” and didn’t want to get my hopes up too much…after all, it could be an e-mail from the Amhelkueken Society or something, right?

After getting waitlisted at Sarah Lawrence and Carleton, I did NOT think I’d be in at Amherst, and I love it so much that I was pretty disappointed.

BUT I’M IN!!! It was a likely letter and they wanted to FLY ME OUT for the Accepted Students weekend, which I unfortunately can’t do because I have performances for Cinderella, and as the Fairy Godmother I can’t really bow out. Of course I’ll ask if I could come out to visit a different time, but oh my gosh, oh my GOSH, OH MY GOSH, I am in at AMHERST AND I AM SO EXCITED!

I’m really sorry for bragging; it’s something I’ve been trying to do less of lately. But you have no idea how ridiculously excited I am. Although I can’t totally believe it yet. I’m afraid they might be e-mailing me back to say it was all a mistake…

and yeah I keep having to remind myself to breathe here…

and doing little victory dances…

Wow.

Congratulations!!!

I'm anxiously waiting to hear from my S. Hopefully he has good new too.

CONGRATULATIONS!

I think I'm rejected.

Haha, we're in the same boat, except that I've already decided Amherst is not for me and I won't even go to Open House if I could.

lavendercloud, are you international or an american?

Orasool, I'm an American born and raised :)

I got one too. Yay for us! :) :) :)

i'm an international but I didnt get any such email...well that confirms it...i'm REJECTED? sob sob

:) I got the same email a bit ago... i also got waiitlisted at Sarah Lawrence.

Funny, how all this worked.

So lavenderclud: you going to go visit? I might :)

I guess I'm rejected...

Me too colormehappy. Or maybe we didn't get one of those because we live closer to the school (I'm in CT so going up to the campus wouldn't be difficult)? I guess its best to stay optimistic...

Oh and btw, hello from a fellow haverfordian waitlister!

Orasool and colormehappy, this does NOT mean you're rejected. Likely letters are only sent to a small number of students. In my case, it was the Diversity something or other that wants to recruit me, and I'm wondering if they think I'll bring diversity cause I'm "poor"... I mean, I'm white and everything, so it doesn't exactly make 100% sense to me. The e-mail said that official decisions will be out next week, so the majority of applicants - accepted, rejected, and waitlisted - will hear then.

Of course, now that my Yale, Harvard, and Columbia rejections are signed, sealed, and delivered - and I've seen them online - I DON'T think I'll be turning Amherst down. Those rejections, without even a waitlist, tampered my state of excitement somewhat, but I'm still pretty happy.

I don't know how much of a difference a visit will make to my decision, but I would like to visit. And I couldn't afford it unless they paid for it, so hey, if they're willing, yippee!

We seem to be in the same situation alot, college wise, littleathiest. I'm not expecting to be accepted to Amherst, but I'll wait for the letter to officially place the school on my bad list. J/K. Sort of...

ETA: Thanks for clearing that up, lavendercloud. I also got three Ivy rejections today so I reeeally want to hear from Amherst. Don't let the bad news bring you down. Getting into Amherst is awesome. I'd kill to be in your shoes.

Thanks for the post lavendercloud (you soothed my just-rejected-by-Penn-maybe-no-shot-at-Amherst state at bit lol) and congrats on getting your letter!

ETA: Haha and colormehappy once again... same here... Amherst is definitely a bit of a reach for me as well. Right now it looks like I'm going to be a Vassar Brewer... any idea where you think you might go?

I'm torn between Wellesley and Bryn Mawr right now. I only have Amherst and William and Mary floating out there in the ether, so it'll probably be one of the two.

I am seeing two different responses as to who is getting the UPS notices of acceptances. Is it everyone who is accepted RD, is it only internationals or is it American kids who are diversity admits? For those lucky kids who got the UPS letters are you (no disrespect meant) diversity admits who are getting special invite to be flown to school or are you RD admits with no diversity overlap?

Nice choices colormehappy... congrats on getting into those two schools! My best friend is probably going to Bryn Mawr actually.

My e-mail had nothing about UPS. It was just a Diversity Recruitment likely letter. Here, I'll post it:

Dear Natasha:

In other news, I was waitlisted at U Chicago. Only college I haven't heard from is Swarthmore, but I don't think I'll pick it over Amherst.

Congratulations Natasha that is great news for you and best of luck at Amherst.

The RD decisions that are not diversity, other than internationals seem to be coming next week. Lavender, D is also white, poor, and part of the diversity program. There are many things that go into the classification, not just economics, but ethnicity and geography. D attended Diversity Accepted Student's Weekend 2 years ago, and they took care of everything. She had such a wonderful experience, that she called on Saturday and said that she decided to attend Amherst, and to send the letters out to the other schools tht she wouldn't be coming. She loves it there. I hope you do, too. Congratulations to all, and to those still wiating, I pray the news is good.
