In a tough situation, is there a way out?

I am an incoming freshman at NYU and I'm having serious issues. When I was making my college decision, NYU was easy to choose; I loved the school and money was not an issue. However, things happened and we can no longer afford it. I was accepted into SUNY Binghamton as well though, and I was wondering if there was any way I'd be able to change my decision or attend Binghamton NOW. I realize it's August, but I'm desperate, please help me?

You need to call the admissions office right now…go do it! Tell them your circumstances, that you were admitted for fall, and ask if there is any way you could still attend. No one here will be able to tell you any more than the people actually making the decision. Good luck!!

Call both NYU and SUNY-B.
At NYU make sure to say you’re still interested in attending but financial circumstances have changed, can anything be done?
At SUNY-B ask if you can still attend… it’s not sure at all.
If push comes to shove you can always re-apply for Spring semester with your new circumstances, and attend community college in the meanwhile.

Call SUNY-B. If you can’t get in this fall, will they admit you now for the spring semester without needing to reapply?

Ask about your financial aid package there. If it has a merit-based component, you might lose that money if you start college elsewhere this fall. In that case, your best choice may be to take the fall semester off completely from classes.

I would talk to SUNY-B and see if they can accept you for the fall or even the spring semester before you speak to NYU.

I doubt calling NYU will be very helpful. It’s much more probable to get into Bing at this point. If necessary you can take a gap year.

It doesn’t matter who you call first. NYU will either help you or not. SUNY-B will either admit you for the fall or not. You need both pieces of information to make an informed decision. Nobody here knows what they will say. It’s all guesswork.

You do need to pick up the phone and make two phone calls though.
