In Blue Devil Purgatory (Waitlist)

I sent email with a paragraph about why I loved duke followed by new awards and accomplishments my senior year to my regional representative. I never got a reply, but a few days later, my regional representative called to tell me that I would be admitted.

Any international student got off the list? S is still waiting.

Has anyone else heard back from duke? Any idea on why it’s late(ish) this year?

@lucya01995
Is it late this year? I thought it was almost the same as last year.

The first wave came on the 29th of April, before May 1st.
I am wondering when the second wave comes.

Does anybody know when the second one came last year?

@waitingmama last year i saw people who heard before may 1st, then others around 5/3, then around 5/7. it should all be around this time. duke is pretty good about letting wait listers know sooner rather than later

Some kids at my son’s school got in late May, but I believe the number of kids they were taking off the waitlist last year was much larger, since they took an extra 100 ED this year.

@3boysssm So do you think this year’s yield would be higher because of extra100 ED?

Yes I do. There was an article in the Duke paper stating that they were expecting the yield to be higher this year because of this as well.

That’s just simple math. If the yield from ED is 95% or so (there will always be a few folks for whom the FA doesn’t work), and the yield from RD is about 33% (Duke’s average for past few years), then locking down an extra 100 kids in ED will improve the overall yield rate even if the yield from RD doesn’t change.

You would think that the yield would be higher this year, but there are absolutely no guarantees when you are competing with schools like Harvard, Stanford and Princeton. One of the things I like most about Duke is that the admissions office does not shy away from admitting students who are likely to receive offers from multiple ivies. Doing so demonstrates that Duke’s administration is secure with regard to its standing amongst peer universities.

is anyone else having trouble getting in contact with their regional admissions officers? i sent my admissions officer an email about 2-3 weeks ago with some additional information but he never replied. i tried call him too (and i realize it’s an extremely busy time of year) but he never picks up or responds to calls

Haven’t heard anything from Duke…

Anyone know when we should be hearing back?

They took more off the waitlist today. I think this whole week and possibly some of the next will be them reaching out to students.

How do you know that?

Just got into trinity - male, central nj
Could not be more pleased!
Good luck to the rest of you still waiting, I’m sure you’re all wonderful people and I really hope I get to see you in Durham next year

Simply, email or phone? Thanks

Actually both - missed the call (my phone was turned off) so they left me a voicemail and proceeded to send me an email right after that

@simplythinking congratulations!!

Have any international students got off wait lists so far? I am very frustrated.
