Hi. I recently committed to UCLA.
Next year I plan to live on campus and I was wondering what device would be the most suitable for getting around on campus fast. Please list the pros and cons of the things you suggest.
Bicycle...there are a lot of steps at UCLA
Scooter...I am not 10 years old
Skateboard and Longboard: I have this upcoming summer to learn how to ride them.

Please help me consider factors such as cost, control, ease of carrying, style, ect.

I know you said you weren’t 10, but I wouldn’t dismiss the higher-end kick scooters. I love mine, which I used to get to class and now to get around campus for work at UCLA Transportation. It’s a Xootr MG (pronounced Zoo-ter): [Xootr Mg : Adult Push & Kick Scooters : Xootr Urban Transport](http://www.xootr.com/kick-scooter_mg.html). The Xootr MG retails for $230. It has seven inch, ultra-low resistance wheels, front and rear brakes, a carrying strap, and an all magnesium deck that is wide enough for an adult. I hauled mine into the classroom, but you could lock yours up at a bike rack too.

Also, yes, UCLA has steps but if your travels take you on the perimeter of the campus, or occasionally off-campus, you might consider a bike. You can try one out by renting one from the UCLA Bike Library. For just $35, you can borrow a commuter hybrid Felt brand bike for a quarter. [UCLA Recreation - Bike Shop Rentals](http://www.recreation.ucla.edu/insidepage.aspx?uid=f960c0ee-80b8-4ff2-850e-d88265bbb65e)

The program is popular, so be sure to get yourself to the rec center early (like first day) of the quarter.

The vast majority of people just walk here. The campus is not large enough to need any of those things.

Yeah if it isn’t a large campus then save yourself some money and just walk.
