In case you missed the announcement ...

Do you get notified when someone uses the @Name

@TheAtlantic–yes, you will be notified. Like now!

Hahaha. Thank you.

Looks as tho’ the conversion to the new format
may not have handled foreign characters.

I found an old post of mine referring to a café –
except everything in the message after ‘caf’ is gone.

Amen & Hallelujah.

I also noticed that foreign characters in messages may have ‘broken’ the migration.
I did a CC search for café (alt-130). Every post I looked up that used to have a a café reference is missing all text after after ‘caf’.

Don’t know what other foreign characters might be common. (Maybe ñ (Alt-164)?)

The large time of each post is unnecessary. I just realized that posts no longer can have a heading. I don’t mind the addition of avatars and emoticons, but so many useful features are gone!

I’m reminded of the phrase ‘a solution in search of a problem’.

This is now too hard to navigate. Kinda like driving in Boston. . . . Can’t just go around the block and start over. As someone up thread (don’t dare attempt to find ithe post again), I drop in for short periods of time to check in. That does not seem possible in this new format. Posts go so fast and curious on threads that I do want to know whether I have any hope of catching up before I drop in. This thread has taken me two days to attempt to read hoping I’d gain some insight into how to maneuver around the changes. Still don’t know if I’ve reached the end of the thread, and haven’t learned anything other than I am not alone—which was good to know. I’d assumed I’d screwed something up.

The sea of white and overly busy pages are very difficult for me to take. For me, it is a huge step down and a major disappointment.

almost my entire screen is white… I don’t like it. Also, no more “member since ____” lines? I don’t mind an update, but I don’t think this one is very good…

edit: i see you can see when someone joined by clicking their name, but that is obnoxious.

edit2: also the huge amount of white space below teh shorter posts is very annoying. (even the long posts have too much white space, but it is way out of control on the shorter ones)

scroll scroll scroll scroll

So can we no longer click on a button that will allow us to see previous posts by a particular person? I liked that feature.

I read your response above .You still cannot delete PMs? I am not very trusting now that this is linked to FB and who knows what other social media in the future. How many servers does CC plan to maintain to hold all of these old posts? As of right now I cannot even edit my profile or change my email or password on the Web version. It continuously loops around and around and keeps asking me to log in even though I’m logged in and It says I’m sorry …something has gone wrong? Try later. I do believe something on CC has gone very wrong.

@HarvestMoon1 you can see previous post. Click on their name, then look in the upper left of their profile page and click on “Replies”.

The white background is painful on the eyes. I feel like I am getting snow blindness. Also too much white space between posts. I can’t wrap my inner eye around a “discussion” or an exchange inside of a discussion because of having to scroll past vast white breaks in the page. I honestly don’t think I can adjust to the white background. jeeze louise. CC is a night-time, evening, wee hour place for conversation or scanning conversations. The color scheme is all wrong for evenings. It is too bright for office typing at 10 am. Can we at least go to a taupe while you think this all over? tapping my brightness key waaaaay down on my Mac…
Arriving on CC is like changing the channel and landing in a loud commercial requiring immediate voluming down.
I understand that it is not only no longer 2004 (first son, first CC website), it is also no longer 2008, last son. good luck with your regroup but yuck on the white background.

Suggestions on how to make my avatar vertical? Somehow, the horizontal waterfall looks a bit odd. Thanks! Am getting used to the site as it has changed and think I may use it MUCH less frequently now, since it is harder for me to navigate and I do find it currently a bit blinding with all the white.

I admit I like the longer time to edit posts–1 hour is a good chunk of time to remember things that could use tweaking or adding. Guess I don’t get why the rest was changed so much. :frowning: Would like how long the person has been a member and being able to see at a glance recent posts by the person (good for ■■■■■ detection).

I hate it. Why did you fix what wasn’t broken, again? It’s ugly, it’s distracting, it’s a visually off-putting layout. Yuck.

While you are fixing things, would you please move Sewanee: The University of the South to the “S” category under colleges. I was unable to locate it until I stumbled upon a post saying it is indexed under “T”.
Thanks !

Notifications at the message level is over the top –
far too much dreck to wade through.

There should at least be a setting/preference
for notification at the thread level.

I don’t care who posted – I care that there’s been activity
in a thread.

Well, the best part is I’m getting much more work done around the house rather than on this site but I feel like Ive lost my favorite social group!

How do I get to the most recent post of a thread on my iphone? Right now I have to go through all of the pages…which takes a very long time…am I missing something?

We really need post numbers…really…
