In case you missed the announcement ...

Call it the kinder, gentler CC. The emphasis seems less on individual colleges and the passionate cheerleading (cough, trolling) of their alum and parents and more on topicality. On my screen, I have to scroll about three-quarters of the way down just to get to the alphabetical listing. Of course, the eight Ivy League colleges still get a sort of box of their own. But, you have to squint pretty hard to find the usual top LACs. I guess it’s more visitor-friendly. But, as others have mentioned, hanging out here every day seems a lot less urgent.

I’m not seeing what’s making you spend less time here :-/

No. Now that I’ve thought about it, I distinctly remember being able to sit on the latest posts (whatever it was called) and reload the page, and all the newest posts would be at the top of the list. This was very convenient.

Either way, it doesn’t make sense. A thread gets pinned to its forum. When you look at ALL the latest posts, you’re not looking at a specific forum, so there’s nothing that a thread can really get pinned to.

where is the button to go to the first unread post in a thread?

please help?

do I just have to scroll through pages to find where I left off the previous day?

(no, I will not be signing up to get replies to threads in my email)

Click on the title of the thread while logged in to get to the first unread post.

On my mac the page is automatically opening to my last read post on a thread. Or am I misunderstanding the issue? This is all so confusing.

“I’m not seeing what’s making you spend less time here”
Well, for one thing, the smaller college fora now display that school’s complete thread record, going back a hundred pages or more in some cases, instead of hiding them if no one replies after 30days. Result: No college forum looks less than completely busy at all times. Eliminates the need to bump threads, to feed the forum and other tricks. Pretty soon we alum will be obsolete! [-(

I’m on Windows and as long as I click on the title of the thread I’m lead to the last post, at least if I’ve been in the thread before since the change. I like it, I think it’s better than the old system of having to remember to click on the mystery button.

Funny, I don’t have to click on anything. It is automatic.

When I click into a forum, I get the names of the threads. If there is more than one page of posts, there are also page numbers next to the thread name. I just click on the highest number. That takes me to the last page of posts on that thread. If there are other posts I haven’t read…I just click on the previous page number next to the thread name.

Can’t anyone do that?

Thumper, I used to do it that way all of the time, but one of the changes that I like is that when I click on the title of a thread that I have viewed before(since the change), it takes me to my first unread post. Much easier.

@Doughill - I added a thread. Then I wanted to edit it. The little gear was there but when I clicked on it it said I didn’t have permission to do that. I had to add a reply to my thread instead. BTW no one had replied to the my thread yet.

I was responding to those who are saying they have to scroll though a whole thread to get to the end. Doesn’t everyone have page numbers to choose from? If so…just pick the last one. No need to scroll through pages and pages.

What was nice about the old site was that you can see which threads were unread from your last visit and you just click on the button “new post” and you automatically go to the oldest new post which you have not read. It was a big time saver.

Thumper, I have to scroll through every thread page to get to the last one when I access CC on my iPhone. There is no way to jump pages in that format (using safari, not a CC app). I have page numbers to choose from when I am on my IPad (also using safari, not an app). I haven’t tried from a desk top or laptop computer.

ECC…ah. I’m using my iPad and safari. Odd that the iPhone version is SOOOO different when going through. Safari.

On the landing page for the forums on computer or tablet you do see the pages, plus there is a little gray box that tells you how many new posts there are since you last visited, but again,i’m guessing perhaps that people that lurk and don’t sign in probably don’t see this.

I do NOT have an iPhone (Android) and I also can only pick one at a time.

Has anyone answered the question about the ability to link posts to fb yet? I have scrolled through every page of this thread and have seen the question posed at least twice but I have not yet seen an answer. If anyone reading any post can decide to link that post to facebook, I am out of here.

You could always link posts/threads to fb. It’s a lot easier now. If some links your post to fb, the first few sentences of your post appears and it links to the thread. Your name is not attached but yes, anyone can share your post.
