in Construction Management

Hello All,

I have seen many posts with people in the same boat that I am in as far as picking a college major. I am interested in Construction Managment; however, see that there could be much more potential in civil engineering. I know that I am capable of obtaining either degree, but I think I would be happier with the construction management courses as well as the career. I am a bit curious as to how well women accel in this field given that it is a male dominated field. When I look up videos on YouTube on careers in C.M. there are usually one or two girls in the video, but they are always assistants. I am interested in the management aspect and hope to eventually work my way into becoming project manager, construction manager, or superintendant; however, I am still exploring all of the potential job titles. I am familiar and have experience doing some construction type jobs. Growing up I helped my grandpa who had a handyman business, and have always enjoyed having a project to do. I am wondering if civil engineering would be a better path to go for job potential/security? I know I am capable of doing the curriculum, I had no problem getting through calc I, but it was alot of work. I worry about the job security with construction. When the economy is good, construction is great, but when the economy crashes so does construction. If I go to school for 4 years I want to make sure it is a degree that is versatile and will make it through the ups and downs of the economy. Is civil engineering worth all of the extra hard work just for the job potential/security when I am ultimately interested in becoming a construction/project manager? Will my odds of becoming a construction manager be much better with a degree in Civil Engineering? Let me know what you think. Thanks Peeps!
