Hey guys, sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum.
This is my first post on this website, so pardon me!
I am going to be attending my first year at a community college, and I am heavily interested in the TAG program to UC Davis.
I was wondering if anyone could break down step by step which steps what I should do to start the TAG program.
I am a little confused on where I could find which courses I need to take, the requirements, and what to even do.
It would be really helpful if anyone could clarify and break things down step by step.
I have met with a counselor at the community college, but he was a bit clueless on the topic; and I do not want to mess anything up.
I am really stressed out about this, and I register for classes very soon.
Thank you for your time.
@kittyucd it is actually pretty straightforward. first of all, you cannot TAG until the Fall semester that you apply. all that you really need to do is make sure you are taking courses that will get you IGETC certified, and also that you will complete all your major prerequisites by the time you apply. each school has different TAG requirements, particularly when it comes to GPA. you will apply for TAG before you send in the general application for UC’s. which CC will you attend? i’m sorry your counselor did not have answers for you. that’s a really disappointing feeling. i had similar experiences with several counselors at my CC, but I kept requesting to see a new one until i found one that was knowledgable and knew more than me about transferring, but by that time I was already applying. i honestly recommend you do the same, because you don’t want to end up like me not realizing what opportunities you missed out on that would strengthen your app. i was accepted to UCD & UCLA though, so i don’t feel too bad.
@CaptainCal i should correct myself, you do not need to complete all major pre-reqs by the time you apply. that was just I made sure I did. you must be able to complete it by the end of the spring prior to transfer. I believe Davis GPA requirement is 3.2?

Good luck!
Also assist.org will have pre reqs from your CC to the UCs
@CaptainCal Hi, thank you for the reply!
I will be attending a community college in a fairly small town called Merced.
So Merced Community College.
So for clarity, I only submit a TAG once I am ready to apply for the UC?
Would I have to keep on updating my tag throughout my school year until I have the required credits? Or is it all one application.
@luckie1367 Thanks for the reply, that seems like a really helpful website! When you say prerequisites, that means all of the courses I need to take before I transfer? Is it the courses I need for the TAG program? Sorry, I’m a bit lost; and I really have no guidance with college stuff! My parents both have never attended college, and I will be the first.
@CaptainCal Also, what do you mean by IGETC certified?
It depends on what the page says. If it is required, you must complete it. If it is ‘recommended’ you do not have to, but if you are applying for a competitive major you probably should.
@luckie1367 I want too study International Relations. So these are the only courses I have to take before transferring? Are these the general education courses that I have to take? Or are there separate courses for transfer and at my school?
General Ed is covered under the IGETC agreement http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/glossary/igetc.html
It is normally certified by your CC, so look around/ask there how to complete the requirements.
@luckie1367 Okay, I browsed around the site; and it says that IGETC is not recommended for my major. What does that mean?
That means you do not HAVE to complete it, but you may have to take other courses to complete your general education requirements.
@luckie1367 Sorry for so many questions! Okay. So the courses on the assist website are my general education requirements? Correct?
Questions are good! Keep 'em coming.
Classes listed on assist are your major pre reqs, meaning they are the classes at your CC that satisfy the lower division requirements at the various UCs. By completing them (or as many as possible/available), you can enter as a junior and keep up with the other students.
The pre reqs can vary by school, so if you are planning to apply to multiple CCs make sure you are aware of all of them!
Also, make sure to get your math requirement done early.
@luckie1367 Ohhhhhhhhhh, that makes SO much sense!
So let me just clarify this again, just to make sure I fully understand things.
There are prerequisites that I need to take at my CC that I attend, and also complete prerequisites for the UC as well.
So there’s two things I need to do?
Also, if you don’t mind checking out my assist report for me.
:Edit: Took not workable link out.
Just to be sure, I only need one math class that is required for this particular major- correct?
I thought you were an International Relations major?
@luckie1367 I linked you the assist report to International Relations?
Let me relink you again.
:Edit: That’s very odd, my links are taking me to different engineering Assist reports every time I click on it. Do you think you could manually look it up for me? Sorry for being such a burden.
No problem. I was really confused when I saw Aerospace Engineering! One sec
Nope, its doing it to me too.
Wow, I wonder whats up with assist?
