Hey guys, i haven’t slept for the past two days ever since i found out my problem. Basically, last semester i dropped 2 classes out of 4 due to the concern of receiving a C- in the class. I have ulcerative colitis, and i can not deal with too much stress because i had a serious flare up the whole summer previously. I try to worry less about grades but i was dumb enough to still drop the classes. I was worried it will lower my GPA and i decided to drop two classes. That semester i only had 2 remaining which was equivalent to 6 credits. Now this semester i am taking 12 credits and i find out that TAP isn’t paying for my classes this semester. I currently have no job and i am shaking hysterically. I did not know it would affect my financial aid and now i don’t know what to do. I am considered full time this current semester but last semester i had only 6 credits. Both classes i received an A- and A. Please help. I currently go to Baruch College CUNY and i don’t have the money at the moment to pay it off. I am scared to take a loan and i am desperately searching for a job. IS there ANY way i can try to get them to fix this?
Pursuit: Must have completed the required number of credits towards your degree as of your prior financial aid term to be eligible for payment in the current semester. Not eligible for payment number 6.
You completed 6 credits or equated credits towards your degree as of your prior financial aid term: Fall 2015
Did you talk to the financial aid office?
You don’t have time to find a job and earn the money to pay the spring semester bill. You’ll just have to take out a loan, then try to pay it back after finding a job.
Before you drop classes, withdraw from courses, you need to talk to someone in financial aid to see what the consequences are as far as financial aid goes. There are course completion, SAP guidelines and state aid requirements to be aware of.
You need certain grades, complete a certain amount of credits that you attempt, and satisfy minimum credit requirements for part time, fulltime etc. for federal/state and even merit aid (GPA) depending on school and state you are in.
I don’t know specifics on TAP, but it sounds similar to PHEAA aid (PA grant).
If you signed up for full time (12 credits) and received a fulltime state grant and then not complete all 12 credits in that semester, then rather than having you pay back half of the grant, they might not give you the grant for the next semester until you are back up to completing 12 credits a semester.
Now I’m not sure if it’s the same with TAP so ask your FA office if you will get the full TAP amount back for next semester if you pass all 12 credits this semester.
You will have to take a student loan for the money you owe.
Also, if you are only taking 12 credits a semester you will need 10 semesters until you graduate, if your degree requires 120 credits. Does TAP have a limit on how many semesters it pays for?
You need to make sure you pass your classes, get tutoring help, join a study group.
No i havent talked to the financial aid office. I found out yesterday in the evening from a friend while looking at my cunyfirst. It was about 6 o clock and the offices were closed.
Also, are you registered with the disability office at your school to receive accommodations for your health condition?
Maybe you could appeal to get your aid reinstated?
Go see the FinAid Office, and speak with your advisor. You may have options because your situation is a medical one, not just a bad grade one.
Aren you registered with Disability Services? This is ESSENTIAL at Baruch where red tape reigns supreme and only these services can cut through at times.
Then, make an appointment with Financial Aid. Make sure to schedule something before 3pm because it’s not unheard of that people supposedly there till 5pm leave at 4.
ALWAYS consult with an adviser alongside your CUNYfirst registration.
Can you take summer classes?
