Hello! First time poster here. (Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum)
So the reason for this post is because I need help/advice on what my next step should be in my college career.
A little background.... I have never been a straight A student. I have a weird educational background which consists of doing well in elementary and getting into a specialized middle high school. In middle school I was barely a 70 average student, never did homework, and came to school late everyday. I got into my very last choice of high schools and this trend of bad grades continued(I was the kid that would come in without studying anything and still pass). I got denied from all of the schools I applied to and at the very last second went to a school called York College and got accepted as a seek student. I started out terribly with a 1.958 gpa and then a 1.987 for my first year. Got kicked out. Finally told my family about my grades, took a semester off and appealed for readmission. Got back in and did pretty decent with 3.125 now this semester is about to end and I know I'm getting 2 or 3 D's and maybe a B. My major is physics because I'd like to go to another school and do mechanical engineering(This school doesn't have it because it sucks). I don't know what the hell is wrong with me everybody including myself knows I have the ability/potential to pass these classes easily but I'm just so lazy and I procrastinate to the point where I think I have a disease(Seriously). It's killing me. Anyways, I'm 4 semesters in and I'm at a 2.4 (NOT including this semesters grades which haven't been put in yet) Should I get my grades together here in this school? Or transfer to a CC and then transfer again to one of the 2 schools I would love to go to (Stony Brook or City College) I need some direction desperately. Help please. I feel like I have so much potential but I'm just laying back on it.
FYI- I have 5 semesters left of financial aid. And I'm working to save up money for my graduate studies.

Have you thought of working for awhile? Sometimes it makes sense to take some time off from school and then go back. Those students come back quite motivates, sometimes having changed what they study, and tend to do very well.

Also, you may do better in a different school or even area of the country.

Yes but honestly I wouldn’t be able to tell people (especially my family) that I’m taking another break. They would probably view me as a failure. A diff school might work but I’m not fond of dorming. I’d like to stay here.
