I would spend my effort working to improve the writing grade. Unless you took the TOEFL, that score may seriously hurt you.

whoops, ur sat IIs, id have to say VERY low. lol wat colleges are u applying to?

duke, vanderbilt, and harvard

hey i got the same predictament, except my grades are slgihtly higher, (sat ii grades) hopefulyl it wont be a deciding factor

yeah, hopefully. what are your sat i and gpa. mines is a 1220 and 3.38 uw and 3.75w

Someone told me my stats were horrible. This is what I got: 700 writing, 760 lit, 770 bio-e...

mine suck. Stupid 740 writing. 10 on the essay, why couldn't they give me an 800?

If the colleges you're applying to use SAT II scores in admissions, those are probably quite low.

If they just use them for placement, or are "optional" or something along those lines, they will be fine.

"duke, vanderbilt, and harvard"

sorry, dont wanna be mean, but unless u have 100% (perfect) GPA UNWEIGHTED, a whole bunch of worthwhile ECs, know the dean personally, and done soemthing fabulous, i doubt u'll be getting in with those sat IIs. these are relaly competitive schools, i mean im no one to really say if u'll get in or not, but just by common sense, these schools have to TOP students around the globe....maybe u should aim for more realistic schools instead of schools everyone wants to go to. i dont understand why everone in here wants to go to those top schools regardless whether they're a 4.0/1600 student or 2.0/1100 student...even if u DO get in, then u should worry bout if thats teh right school for u, are u goin to be able to handle the work? ha good luck.

For Duke and Harvard, the OP is going to get blown out of the water with those SAT II's and I wouldn't be much more optimistic about Vanderbilt. If you're some hot shot athlete they want and your SAT I's are around 1400, you might have a chance.

Safiamilke, the only one of yours that is low is the Writing and for a lot of schools it would be acceptable...it's just with the top schools that you're looking uphill.

well, what schools do you recommend for me. i have a 1220, 3.75 w gpa, african american, good ecs, rec from the principal and two other teachers, and good essays boyi

Well...def. NOT the ones you listed. Oh...wait...you're a URM!? Then maybe, w. some luck, and if they are really that desperate...but I still don't see it.

Ever thought of George Washington (in D.C.) or Wheaton (in Massachusetts) or Fordham (in NYC) or Boston University (well obviously boston)?

catch-22, urms do NOT receive THAT big of a boost. the urms admitted to the top schools are very worthy candidates who get in based on merit, not just affirmative action.

Pebbles, it depends on the college. I understand that a lot of URMs are prolly very qualified, but it is also widely known that the adcoms have a lower standard (admissions "points") for them. I am not trying to connote that URMs get in solely on AA basis, however, let's be realistic here, it is a lot easier for an African American student to get in a selective institution than say...a white kid.

again the whole affirmative action thing...
