Just curious. I got into my school EA and I already filled out the housing application, and I wanted to know if I should continue checking for my assignment or not. Is it not likely to happen before spring?

My son has filled out his housing app for his 2nd choice school. The email he received back said he will find out in June who his roommates are and if he got his first choice dorm room.

You may have filled out your application, but the majority of your classmates don’t even have an admissions decisions yet, and may not have even completed their applications yet. I doubt housing assignments would be made until they know who will be in the whole class, not just the early admits.

I figured. But I thought there might be a chance they’d get a head start and match up those that they have already.

Generally assignments are made in June-early July, and roommate assignments are made in July-early August

At my school, freshman get news in June, and upperclassmen get news in July.

At my school, housing assignments are at the end of August.

Most schools won’t tell you until summer.

The fact is, housing deposits at the majority of schools are not due until at least May 1. They won’t make assignments for the fall semester until after then.

Just because you’re an early admit doesn’t mean your future roommate will be. They could be someone who originally gets waitlisted. You never know. Trust me, this is a good thing. They’re more likely to match you with someone better if they have a larger pool of students to choose from.

Most schools have no idea of what their availability looks like until the Spring/Summer. They have to take into account factors like whether they’re renovating buildings, how many students are returning, how many students are incoming, etc. And most of the time returning students don’t make plans until March/April.

Be patient, it will come before you know it!
