So, I applied as a Sophomore to UC Davis for a Linguistics degree, planning to study that and also do Mathematics (which was closed to Sophomore applicants) while there.

My GPA was calculated to be at about a 3.07 or so. I was placed on the waitlist.

I'm taking seventeen units this semester, one of which is an Honors English unit. However, my question is primarily regarding my second semester Calculus course. It's five units and I'll most likely be getting a C in it. This will negatively impact my GPA by a significant measure, despite having around sixty or seventy UC transferable units. Will this shift in my GPA be seen by the admissions office and, if so, will it negatively impact my chances of being accepted from the waitlist? I do have the opportunity to drop it, as I can qualify for a mental illness drop. I'm considering doing so to prevent it from negatively impacting my chances at getting in; I'd rather retake it and get in to UC Davis than have to wait another year for another shot (not a guarantee) at getting in.
