May we never forget...........

Thanks PM! I forwarded the link to Jamz for inspiration. He is giving the speech on 9-11 tonight at the academy. That was really moving and I hope that it helps him with writing his speech (which I hope is almost completed by now). I share a birthday with this horrid day in our history and will indeed never forget. Sucks to me tomorrow........... :(

This is another photo/music tribute to 9/11

Music by R.E.M. ...again you will need to turn up the volume

This takes a while to load.

it sure would help their case if they could spell infamy right

nicely put together memorial, though.

Here is the last paragragh of a speech given by Jamz last night at the 9/11 ceremonies at USMMA. I just had to share. How PROUD I am of all of our academy kids! Let there be no doubt that these kids are focused to ensure our freedoms.

"Standing here today are future soldiers and sailors – future heroes and heroines. We have started our commitment to freedom by accepting our appointment and acknowledging the fact that we will be commissioned officers. We will continue on where others have fallen, and will pass our spirit on to those after us. We will stand strong together, not only as an academy, but as a Nation. As a Nation, we will never forget 9/11 or the spirit it has awoken in us. God bless America."

jamzmom- nicely done- you should feel very proud- as for us, a sad day here on LI, just too many neighbors and friends lost, our little town once again draped in flags, so for me I will be happy when the sun sets on the day, and I hope once again they shine the lights into the sky where the buildings were- they should be able to see them from Kings Point-
life marches on, and how lucky we are to have kids like Jamz...

Jamzmom..

Your son's closing remarks were very good, and no doubt this was a tough job... you should be quite proud!

Jamzmom: sounds like you have a great son. It is so comforting that great kids like Jamz will be the leaders in the future.

I am indeed a very proud mom. Probably won't be living long when he finds out I've posted it. :) Couldn't help myself. Its like chocolate. I just can't stop! I truly didn't mean for it to sound like a brag page and hope it didn't come across that way. Its just that he humbles me sometimes with his barely 18 year old little self and I thought to post this part of his speech to be a tribute to this 9/11 thread as I thought it related.

Jamzmom,

You definitely did not sound like a bragging mom. You have every reason to be so proud of him. I think he spoke the words so many of our kids have in their hearts, which is why today is such a bittersweet day. We are reminded of the sadness and horror, but we see our children - as young as they are - acting so unselfishly and with such honor. It gives us all so much to be proud of.

Thanks momoftwins. You said that with such grace and with the point that I'd wanted to come across here. To all you guys, guess I was a tad embarrassed by the responses but thanks for standing beside me with my pride. So honored that he is in this select group of young folks who want to see that 9/11 never happens again. I'm with Navy2010. Ready for this day to end....... I'm too mushy today for my own good! :)

I'm hoping that the kids can go out to see the lights tonight.

jamzmom: thank you for sharing- thats all I can say- how lucky are we all to have such great kids in such noble persuit....so many others go astray- and Jamzmom, reading your son's words just gives me hope that perhaps someday my own son will be able to express himself elloquently- (a mother can always hope!)...can't wait 'till I can wear a "USNA MOM" pin of my own! again, congrats to your son! Enjoy that chocolate!

The cadets of Coast Guard had a memorial service/review yesterday to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. It was quite impressive and they marched off to the strains of "Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes. Not too many dry eyes in the house.

At USMMA the plebes wrote the names, in chalk on the grinder, of all the innocent people who were murdered on Sept. 11th. While an honor guard kept watch... then at midnight they had a special service, where Jamzmom's son did the remarks. I understand it was very touching.

Thank God that there are some that still remember, because it sure was not evident on network television!

"because it sure was not evident on network television"

I agree, Fox news spent the day talking up supreme court nominee Roberts and blaming the disaster in New Orleans on local government. The only thing missing was an update on Jacko.

shogun...

This past Sunday morning at the times of the attacks on the twin towers...CBS has on dancers, ABC was speaking to someone in the Carolinas about hurricane Ophelia, and NBC was breifly airing the memorial service at Ground Zero. (I kept switching the channnels hoping for better coverage.)

While at the same time, I understand, Fox re-aired the attacks of 9/11 as well as coverage of the memorial service at "Ground Zero." (I do not have cable TV ...I was told this by some that do when I was complaining to them about the lack of coverage on NETWORK TV)

The proplem with all the networks, including Fox, is that their news is aimed at entertainment, not information. CBS, NBC, ABC news have such a small portion of their total network's broadcast time as to be barely above "significant" on the effectiveness and informative scale. They cater to the ADD tendancy of much of the US public. The priority of those 3 networks is not news, but their entertainment schedule. CNN has made the mistake of M-TV and forgotten its roots, and Fox news is the US version of the old Soviet TASS news agency, catering to its own conservative base under the guise of "fair and balanced". Fox, perhaps, is the biggest disappointment in the news business because it has 24 hours a day to disseminate news and instead it has chosen to position itself as the "loyalist" network for the government. I end up watching a bit of all of them because to stick with any one of them I just get frustrated. It's the only way I can remain "fair and balanced". Frankly, the History channel paid more attention to 9/11 this week than did the news programs. In fact, as disappointing as it sounds, there was much more factual "news" abt 9/11 on the National Geographic channel this month than I saw on Fox, CBS,et al. Just the humble opinion of someone who is tired of seeing this country purposefully divided into red/blue states, conservatives and liberals, good and bad. As a lifetime Republican I have voted for my share of candidates from both party's. I look forward to a bit of political sanity in our nation's future.

Now back to our great kids, who's true measure of commitment lays with their willingness to selflessly serve the nation, despite the party in power.

Shogun, I have an Aunt who is so fed up with it that she sends emails off to FOX & CNN on a daily basis to complain about exactly what you'd said. It's tabloid tv at it's best. I expect to see "dog gives birth to O.J.'s alien baby" any day now. Getting the news online is the way to go. You can pick & choose and avoid the blather.

So excited! I get to hug my son & Prayerfulmom in a few days!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOT!
