For those of us who need to know, what's the fastest/easiest/cheapest way to get to an In-N-Out without a car from Berkeley?

There's a student group that's usually selling In 'n Out cheeseburgers on Sproul 11-1. Otherwise, you have to take AC Transit to Oakland or BART to Embarcadero and then go to Pier 39. That's something I hate about Berkeley socialist politics...if McDonalds is allowed, why can't In 'n Out be allowed?

That's a ridiculous political inference; if Berkeley was socialist, we'd be having just McLenin's burgers. The main obstacle to economic enterprise in this area is real estate (explains all the street peddlers around here - not that that is a bad thing).

I love In 'n Out, there are a bunch all over the Bay Area, there must be some around Berkeley.

Nope, the closest ones are the ones that dobby said. Either in Oakland on Hegenberger, or along the Pier in San Francisco (Jefferson St. I Think), because I doubt you want to go to Daly City to get a burger.

Just because the "main obstacle to economic enterprise" is real estate (which I dispute,) doesn't mean that Berkeley isn't socialist. The opposite is true, Berkeley is one of the most socialist cities in the United States. It's citizens, especially the older ones that serve on the various Boards and Commissions, are almost all EXTREMELY opposed to fast food franchises. But of course, they've been losing the fight for some years now because students and others moving into Berkeley actually LIKE those services which at other times would have been unthinkable. Think all the franchises on Telegraph got there without some major socialist hearaches? Think again.

"The opposite is true, Berkeley is one of the most socialist cities in the United States."

Then why do I have to pay for my own medical insurance?

Pull your head out. Berkeley is outstandingly liberal, but defining it as socialist is laughable. :) Ha! Do you honestly think the city per se is Marxist-Leninist?

there is one 20 minutes away in pinole guys

The OP wanted one that you could take public transportation to. Pinole is pretty hard to get to without a car.

None of the locations on the website look accessible to Cal students. You need to petition In-N-Out or UC campus officials to have a franchise on or near campus! http://www.in-n-out.com/locations_map.asp?state=n_ca

I never understand the popularity of In-N-Out Burger. The meat seems undercooked to me and the fries taste like the paper bag or box that they come in. I usually end up getting an upset tummy!

Here in Silicon Valley, the locations are very popular among younger crowds (18-30 year olds), especially late at night, because the dining room stays open late.
