in need of feedbackk from nyu students & h.s. students

okayy so i go to bklyn tech & i plan on applying to nyu**through heop, however i saw that the requirements are a bit more demanding than the other heop schools. will nyu and other heop schools take into account going to a specialized h.s. over a regular nyc high school gpa wise seeing as though the academic courses are a bit more rigorous? and also my guidance counselor told me that when you apply on the application your suppose to put heop on the top, because it goes into a different smaller pool than regular admissions, but i've also heard that you apply to the school directly like a normal admissions, and then if they see you need help financially based, you can apply?! really overwhelmed

They'll probably take it into account, but realize if the competition from your own school is intense, it might be harder to get in. And, yea, you apply to the college you're interested in. Aka in my case it was College of Arts and Sciences.

You apply to NYU as normal admission to the college of your choice and if you qualify for their opportunities program they will notify you. You do not apply directly for HEOP.

all colleges receive a copy of the school profile from which you are applying. they'll know your school's workload but that isnt necessarily a good thing considering they wont want a gazillion students from the same school (there has been at least 1 stuy kid in every single one of my classes, and from what i've heard it was worse in earlier years). that is why the SAT is required...as a standardizer to make up for the different schools. if you come from a school with a 95 gpa and a 1700 SAT score, vs an 90 gpa and a 2000 SAT score, theyll know that high school the student attended will matter. but really, colleges don't aim to accept schools, they accept people.

you really should call the office of fin. aid about this question, theyll be happy to help (and keep pressing 0 to avoiding the automated machine)
