In short I did horrible in high school…so just assume my high school stats are the worst-case scenario. I have been attending University of Illinois at Chicago for the past two years and would like to transfer if I can. Please suggest schools that I should apply to in the coming months. Name as many as you would like, I do not have a cap on the amount of money I can spend on application fees, and I have plenty of time for apps.
My GPA is currently at a 3.8, it may fall so I will make my projected GPA at the end of this year 3.5-3.8. My ACT composite was a 27 because I bombed the math section, but I have since taken college algebra and calculus 1&2 so I’m sure if I retook it I could score better. I not really sure if its worth while retaking it though. I never took the SAT, I live in Illinois and here they love the ACT. My total classes taken and currently taking are as follows:

General Biology (1 Year Completed)
General Chemistry (One Year In Progress)
College Algebra (Completed)
Pre-Calc (Completed)
Calculus I, II, III (III in Progress)
English (1 Year Completed)
French (1 Year In Progress)
Intro to Psychology (Completed)
Psycho Biology (Completed)
Social Psychology (Completed)
Abnormal Psychology (In Progress)
Child Development (In Progress)
African American History (Completed)
Ceramics (Completed) <-------- I was really stressed out and needed a break, I’m assuming this class is going to hurt me; and I took a semester off after high school, I’m assuming that’s going to hurt too.

I would like to apply to U of I in 2007, but that’s really all I can think of.

Go for UI-IC. I say with that 3.8 gpa of yours you have a decent shot. Since your High school gpa is below average try applying to schools that ONLY look at your College GPA and ec's. Try Syracuse University, NYU, UC's, and other Illinios schools. (assuming that you dont mind going out-of-state.) Anyways as far as ec's go, try community service. As a dual enrollment student, every college loves community service and its easy to get involved in. Also, try student government at your school (assuming you have one)

I don't think a semester off will hurt you. Might help you depending on how it was spent. I also don't think that Ceramics class will hurt you, unless you took a light credit-hour load too often.

You need to tell us more about what you are looking for in a school if you want good suggestions beyond UIUC. Are you considering out-of-state? Are finances a consideration? What type/size/location of schools do you prefer?

I'm really open in terms of schools, out-of-state would be good, finances aren’t really a problem. I like larger schools for the atmosphere, but I also like smaller schools for the personal attention, so I’m open to both.

You sound like me. Im a transfer, I have a 3.84 gpa at a college, (but im dual enrollment, still in high school.) Anyways Ive thought of some MATCHES for you in terms of your 3.8 gpa and hopefully im assuming you will do community service. I wish I knew your intended major.

1) Syracuse University- Medium sized school in New York. Its awsome and is also a top 60 school that loves transfers. I say you could get in for sure if you had good ec's and kept your 3.8. Do not look at SAT,ACT, or high school gpa.
2) UI-UC- First off your a in-state resident, it also helps that your in their system of schools and maintained a good gpa. Once again I say you have a good shot if you manage to keep your 3.8.
3) UC-Santa barabara- one of thos schools that are in the middle of the uc's.

Safeties:
1) Chicago state university
2) Loyola University chicago
3) UC-Riverside, UC- merced

Reaches:
1) University of Chicago: For obvious reasons.
2) UC's: Berkely, UCLA
