In need of IMMEDIATE advice

Hello everyone I'm hoping I could get advice from anyone who has an idea of what I should do regarding my situation. So here it is.

I currently go to Cal State University Los Angeles as an undergraduate student. I am in my 2nd year and my preferred major is Accounting. I know that CSULA offers a BS in Business Administration with the option in Accounting which seems alright. However I was hoping to transfer to UCI(Irvine) or USC. So which college do you recommend?

My Background:
My parents combined income is less than $16,000.
I have no income.
I have no EFC (expected family contribution).
I also have no guided help so any information you have will be greatly appreciated.
My overall GPA is 3.48, which I know isn't competitive or even great, but I was wondering if I will still be able to transfer to either UCI or USC?

From the research I have done on USC, it seems great. The problem is the admission and finances of being able to attend that college.
Do you think I could get admitted to USC?
If so, how much will I be able to get from financial aid?
Do you know deadlines for admissions and applications due for USC?
Should I aim to transfer by the 2012-2013 year (Attend by this Fall 2012)?
Is this even possible for my situation? Or would I have to wait until the 2013-2014 year?
What do you recommend?
Could I simply go to the USC transfer center and set an appointment with a transfer counselor?

From the research I have done on UCI, the school alone seems great. The business program and accounting option is another story.
Do you think I would get admitted to UCI?
If so, how much will I be able to get from financial aid?
The business program is still somewhat relatively new, so I was wondering if you guys had any opinions on it?
Also I heard that the accounting program is relatively hard to get into, is this true?
If so, what kind of students make it into the program?

I am also debating between on-campus housing versus off-campus housing if I do get to attend UCI, since USC I can commute to based on where I live currently.
Does financial aid at UCI cover dorm room expenses or would I have to take out loans?
Is it possible that the financial aid would be enough to cover off-campus housing?

I know it's a huge load of questions, but I had researched these questions on my own, and I'm not getting definitive answers so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance and for your time!

I’m curious about this too. I heard that transferring from a CSU to a UC is difficult and maybe you would have a better chance at going to USC. The downside of being admitted to USC is the huge fees it comes with. I think in the end it will be your decision but let’s say you do get into USC, will you go even though you must pay more? Which university are you actually aiming for or are you fine with going to one or the other?

Hi thanks for your reply! In response to your questions, I am actually aiming for UCI. Reason being is that I heard that USC’s professors aren’t as experienced and are actually teacher’s aides? I haven’t confirmed it with actually people that went to USC, but just heard it by word of mouth. On top of that, UCI happens to be a personal preference for personal reasons. As far as if i do get admitted to USC, I think I’ll consider the opportunity costs that occur if I do attend based on the huge fees that come with it. But I am quite set on not staying at CSULA. Thanks again.

It is true all UCs give priority to cc before they even look at other 4-years. You would have a shot a USC because they look at everyone equally (or so they claim). An up side is since your family income is under 40k you have a lot of opportunity for scholarships. I would apply to both do not put all your eggs into one basket.
Other Universities to look into with good financial aid or good accounting programs
Cal state Fullerton
University of La Verne
UCLA
Pepperdine University
Chapman University

Hello, thank you for your reply. Also thank you for your suggestions. I’m considering applying to both and hoping I’ll get admitted to at least one or the other. However my main concern is what will be my future living arrangement considering the finance aspect of it.

You could still apply to USC but you would need to hurry. The application is due on Feb 1st. You wouldn’t be able to transfer to UCI until Fall of 2013. The application would be due on Nov. 30th of this upcoming Fall. For UCI, your best bet would be to drop out of CSULA and enroll in a CC but since you’re already in your sophomore year, this will set you back a year. Also you might run into problems with unit caps because you already have a lot of units completed at a 4 year university.

Thank you for your reply. I also came across the deadline for USC admission, but I found it was Feb 2nd. Ill double check and consider my options. However, I don’t plan on entirely dismissing either colleges until I’m certain about my plans and I’m hoping to get more thoughts and comments about this topic. Thank you again.
