In need of Language major/minor advice

So the thing is I was planning on majoring in a language, specifically korean since I’ve been studying for a few years and have learned a lot about the culture

But then I realized only a few colleges offer that lol

So then I had two other options:

minor in korean (which is still really low in availability but slightly more available than a korean major ) & Major in something different, like linguistics? Then maybe study abroad/exchange in Korea

Or

Go with chinese as a major (which almost every uni has) and leave korean out the equation ? I know 0% of Chinese, I just think that would be the 2nd most interesting language/culture to learn

Idk, it just seems like all my safety choices only offer chinese to study but they also have exchange programs available in Korea so like???

What sounds like the best way to go?

Oh yeah! I want to become a translator in the future but I’ll probably teach English abroad for a couple years before pursuing that haha

You can learn a language, and teach English abroad, without majoring in the language. Of course, you’d want to go to a college where Korean is offered, but you don’t need to major in Korean to learn it or to teach English in Korea. So I’d just look for colleges that offer Korean classes for you to take, and study abroad programs in Korea.

OP you sound like a mirror image of my D20. She is planning to do exactly as @Juliette said. You don’t need to major in Korean, just become fluent in it. It’s hard enough finding a school that teaches Korean, nevermind majoring in it. Good luck.

Got it! I’m building and thinning my college list now based off of this, thank you. I don’t know why I thought it was important to major in it @Dancingmom518
