In need of reassurance

So about a month ago I added pomona to my list of colleges because I ended up second guessing a lot of the schools I was applying to. However, now I haven't been able to interview and my guidance counselor says this is very detrimental. She tells me that Pomona is definitely a long shot (meaning she doubts I will get in). Is this true? Here are my stats:

SAT--2110 (1430, math and verbal)
GPA-- 96.5
All honors courses throughout high school, 4 APs, 5 art courses

-Varsity swim captain (varsity all four years)
-Key Club Member
-National Honor Society
-Big Buddies
-National Honor Society Tutor
-Play Cello in local orchestra

-Work as a lifeguard

I also live in Maine, which is pretty far away, so hopefully that makes me a slightly different candidate.

Do I have any chance of being accepted? Was applying a waste of my time?

oh, and i forgot to add my sat II scores.

750 Literatures
620 US History

If you really want to attend any school, it’s never a waste of time applying. IMHO, there’s pretty much no such thing as being a shoo-in. You didn’t post your individual SAT I scores, so it’s hard to say about that. You have a strong GPA and your ECs are good and varied. Your SAT II in US History is on the low end, but it’s not the kiss of death. Feel good about applying and don’t worry about not interviewing. Your GC may just be saying that so that you don’t get your hopes up too much. Just enjoy the rest of your senior year.

Good luck!

almost no one can consider pomona a sure-thing. however, you do have a pretty good shot

Are you planning on swimming at Pomona? Did you meet with the swim coach? If yes, was he/she any help to you in the admissions process?

Your stats are very similar to mine and I was accepted last year. My GPA was slightly lower and my SATs were marginally higher. I also did not interview.

Alisonfay, both your test scores and GPA are similar to our son’s. He was admitted ED I. A sports supplement and music supplement may be a boost if you plan to continue swimming or playing cello. I can’t imagine that it could hurt to be in contact with the swim coach.

Good luck with all of your applications and try to relax a little. Based on your credentials and past activities, you will end up at a wonderful school and meet a lot of interesting people with whom you can share the next leg of your journey.

If you haven’t talked to Joshua C. White, the Pomona swim coach, then you should do so soon if you are interested in swimming for Pomona. He’s very helpful and friendly, and you can get an idea of what practices are like. I know I began last year by just filling out the recruiting form online, so maybe you want to start with that. And if you haven’t seen the pools, then let me tell you that they are GORGEOUS. I know that I would love to swim outdoors for once.

I agree with everyone else. You seem like a strong student, but it’s really the little things that can bring you down or make you stand out.

thanks so much everyone! I feel much better and I will definitely take all of your advice into consideration!

Word…if you wanna swim, talk to J. Dubs

Yeah, I’m hoping to swim here too. I talked to Coach White and he seemed really knowledgeable and passionate about the sport, and the team is looking pretty solid this year. Any other guys applying and hoping to swim?

I’ve swam all through high school, however I probably won’t end up swimming… but have you seen the pools?! I live in maine and have never had the chance to swim in outdoor pools–they look SO amazing!

Yeah, the ledges on the wall for standing sold me. That’s pretty awesome.

Yeah, I plan to swim. Outdoor pools, yay!
