So a little background, I graduated in 2010 and went directly to a CSU. My first semester was decent, the second semester (2011) was horrible I landed myself on academic probation ( I experienced alot of trauma that year). My second year first semester (2011) was fine I did fairly well but the second semester (2012) I had a medical withdrawl for two classes and the other two I simply failed. I left right before finals and went back home (due to a psychological breakdown, I was diagnosed with having major depression). I came home and directly went to my local city college to continue (2012-2013) (In retrospect I should of just took some time off, that whole year I did horribly and basically failed all of my classes or withdrew). The next year I did really well in the Fall (2013) and now (2014) I'm kinda of shaky, I'm getting 2 A's , 1 B and a D; (along with two withdrawls one for a Bio class and another for a lab).

Now down to the present, I know this is terrible and my transcripts are looking all types of crazy and I have alot of attempted units but only 60 completed units,(I'm going to do Academic Renewal) I have no plans to give up. My plan is to take the next school year to finish up some classes (6 classes) so that I can receive a certificate in my field as well as get my Associate Degree for Transfer in Psychology and try to boast my GPA up. I plan to transfer to anyone of these schools SFSU, SJSU, CSUEB, CSUN.

My issues have definitely been that I've taken on way to many units than I can handle. Since I started college I was always taking 15 units so I know for sure now that my cap has got to be the full time 12 units or less, at least for now. Luckily the next two semesters I'll only have a few classes.

My question to you all is:
Is it possible for me to transfer to these schools?
Should I kiss my dreams of going to graduate school away?
Any advice for me to be a better student?

Thanks,
T

I recently posted an answer to someone who has somewhat of a similar situation to yours. You are more than welcome join in on the discussion if you want.
To answer your questions, yes it is still very and always possible to transfer to all the schools you listed. You can use assist.org to see what courses you need to take at your cc for the major you plan to study in when you transfer. But it looks like you might have that covered the Degree Transfer offered by a lot if not all CSUs. In being a better student, never overload yourself with hard courses all in one semester, you have to spread them out from semester to semester. Also check what the gpa threshold/cutoff for your major at the CSUs you plan to transfer to. Don’t try to repeat courses that are core courses for your major. Like if your an engineering major, you don’t want to constantly re-take calculus or physics or even any engineering course, because with some 4-year schools they might use that against you since it also weighs on your gpa even if you end up getting a better grade after the second or third time you’ve taken the course. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you so much for your response. Glad to know you have experience! Yes the Degree transfer covers all required courses for transfer luckily. For my major (Psychology) I haven’t repeated any courses but I will next semester. I had to take a W for it. The course wasn’t challenging I just had too much on my plate and I knew I wouldn’t be able to take it but when I take it next semester I’m positive that I’ll be able to pass it. Do you think that would be okay? The rest of my courses are requirement that I need I’m sure I can pass those as well. I’m taking one over the summer, 3 for fall and 3 for spring which I think is manageable.

Thank you so much for your time.
