hey there. so I'm planning on applying to yale ea maybe, and I've got a bit of a problem- my sat 2 scores are pretty bad. ok, they're not all bad- i have a 750 us history and 730 bio molec which i'm happy about, but i've also got a 660 chem and a (OMG *** BBQ) 610 world history (though I did make a 5 on the ap ...). also, I'm pretty sure I got a 5 on the chem ap as well. sooo, my problem is, should I retake world history and chem, OR should I just take math iic (considering the top three sat 2 policy at most colleges) and hope that the adcoms are feeling mighty generous and/or blind when they're reading my application. thanks for any input :D

Can't you take 3 Sat IIs in a day? Why don't you take the math 2c first, then retake the other 2? As I recall the math 2c has an incredibly sweet curve, so if you have doubts about the other ones i'd just put most of your energy into that.

Just take whatever is easiest. Admissions will only look at your highest three SAT II scores. You don't need to hope that they are "blind" or feeling "mighty generous." While they will in fact see your "bad" sat ii scores, they won't hold them against you--especially with your great AP scores. I would recommend taking the math iic because it's really easy. If you get 750+ on that you will be in great shape.

"Just take whatever is easiest."

I disagree. While a one or two easier ones is fine, taking a harder or less common one stands out more. Obviously, the adcoms know which SAT IIs are harder, at least they should. I took 5 SAT IIs, and even though I had 3 800's, I still took physics since one of my "passions" was physics, which showed that I was willing to go the extra mile. I didn't just settle for the 3 best. So taking "whatever is easiest" is not my suggestion in this case. Btw your SAT II scores really aren't all that bad.

The general rule of thumb is that you should only retake a test if you think that you can do significantly better. Since you have quite a bit of time this summer before the II's are offered again, you probably have adequate time to prepare for world history/chem and/or math IIc.

What kind of math is in Math IIc? For example, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trig etc.
