In need of some very good advice!

I'm applying early decision to NYU in a month. As soon as i get the results after i take the October SATs, I'm going to send out my application.

I know it's probably a small part of the admissions, but I wanted to know if someone could give me some advice on my schedule for senior year.

As of right now I'm taking:

AP European History
Choir
Psychology
AP English Lang/Lit
AP Italian
Trigonometry
and Sociology/ US History through the Movies

My options are to change Trig to Calculus but drop out sociology and take a study hall in its place.

So my question is: would it look better if i took Calculus and a study hall or if I stuck with Trig and Sociology?

Hmm... Well I'm a senior too. But, I think it depends on your major/school. If you want to go into Stern or any mathematics/science major, I say go with Calc as you already have a history class. Or do that if you really enjoy math. But, if you are more of a humanities person, go with your current schedule. Both are well-rounded, so you should be fine.

I'm going to be a theater major, so do you think I should just stick with this?

How would you take Calc without an understanding of Trig? High School math is sequential like that.

If you can, go for Calc, it looks a whole lot better. Sociology is just an unimportant elective. Don't take Calc and fail though, that wouldn't be so hot especially since Stern is like all about math.

I'm taking Trig right now, like the advanced stuff. In NYC, it's called Math B. It's the slowest math class actually, all the other smart asians are in AP Calculus AB/BC. <_<

Unless you are a total math geek and love it to no end, skip calculus and stick with trig. You have no idea how many "okay with math" kids end up hitting a brick wall with calc. With three APs this year, you don't need to look any more impressive. You risk getting a bad grade with calc. Just stick with trig/soc and get the best grades you can. Tisch won't care about calc, just that you have great grades and are taking a full schedule.
