in need of suggestions

I'm a senior right now and I'm looking for places to apply. I'm a 4.0 (unweighted) student (somewhere between 4.6 and 4.7 weighted, not entirely sure), 16 of 251 in my class (before last year I transferred in from another school where I was top 5, but the new school offers more AP and honors classes than the last one, so I've gotten bumped down), 2130 SAT (750 CR, 690 W + M) (I took it again Saturday and hope it'll go up). I played varsity soccer 2 years; am involved in Interact, NHS (as treasurer), Students Taking Action Now: Darfur, Model UN and Quiz Bowl (our team qualified for nationals last year); tutored at a local middle school last year and do counseling in my high school's writing center; have edited several blogs or student publications; am a National Merit Semi-Finalist; and attended the North Carolina Governor's School this past summer in English.

I haven't decided what I want to do for a major yet; I'm between history, English, political science, public policy, and a pre-law track. I love analytical writing and I'm interested in schools with a solid foundation in liberal arts (though not necessarily a strictly-LA school) in/close to a medium or large sized city (anywhere in the US is fine).

I know I'm applying to UNC Chapel Hill and Davidson, mainly out of familiarity with them (I'm from NC). I'd like to apply to up to 6 or 7 other schools. Where do you all think would be good fits?

I think that Bowdoin is pretty good in all of the majors you’re thinking of, is liberal arts, and is semi-close to Portland
Swarthmore might be a good reach also

These are my favorite LACs. You shoud take a look at these resources and see which schools speak to you. Lots of great choices.

Hi,

Your stats are very good!!!

Is money no object? Have your parents told you how much they can spend on your education each year? Going out-of-state can often double (or triple) the cost of your education. Will that be a problem?

You mention that you’re a NMSF…are you looking for schools that will give you a NMF scholarship - such as free tuition, free room, etc?

Smaller schools in/near cities: Macalester, Rhodes, maybe Lewis & Clark as a safer bet.

Wesleyan is located blocks away from a small city downtown area, in a less snowy part of New England (half-way between Hartford and New Haven.)

Also Richmond and Claremont McKenna (CA).

Might look at Holy Cross located 1 hour from Boston. HC is similar to Davidson but easier to gain admission to. Like Davidson, Holy Cross has strong politcal science and pre-law programs. HC has great alumni network includes Supreme Court Justice, 1 US Senator, and several Congressmen.
