Ok so.. NYU is transferring my 67 credits from my previous school.. and giving me 20,000 as scholarship.. so i need 2 years more to graduate.. The major is media and communication..

And Columbia is giving me 10,000.. transferring 55 of my credits, and it will take me 3 years to graduate.. major is undeclared.. but most probably political science, or if i am good then environmental science..

Please tell me what should I do? I have been wearing myself out.. going to the both schools takeing classes.. I am like half dead.. i still cant decide..

MY main goal: to get a Good job, with Great pay..

Wow, I’ve never heard of anyone getting more money from NYU than Columbia. So it sounds like merit money from NYU and Columbia determined your family can afford all but $10K. If I could afford it, I’d go to Columbia hands down. If the money matters a lot, NYU is great.

Well, Hmom the thing is, i am married, and unemployed, and my husband is also unemployed… both of them are merit money… and nyu is giving 12k more which is need based…

Columbia doesn’t give merit money, are you confused? If you and your husband are unemployed, have you asked Columbia to revisit your aid, they meet full need unless you’re talking GS here. If you are, it’s not worth borrowing all you’ll need to, it will compromise your life for decades.

name brand(or in this case IVY) does not always mean a job easily later on in life. if you can’t afford columbia(as in you have to take out excessive loans just to attend) then NYU is really your only option. If you don’t have the money, don’t buy what you can’t afford.

I don’t know what the total cost of attending NYU will be. But assuming those 2 years at NYU total 50k in loans, then that would mean Columbia’s total of debt would be about $90K+ just to attend after three years. $90K is NOT worth attending Columbia for if you can’t afford it. It will mean monthly payments of over $700 in loans for years to come, possibly decades.

also I don’ tknow how many units you need to get adegree from columbia, but generally speaking isn’t it around 120 for most schools? Which should mean that you would just have to end up taking 18 or more units for two semesters to get 65 in two years.

Call Columbia financial aid explain your financial situation.

I am getting 10k scholarship from Columbia, and with financial aid, I have to take out about 14k loans per year … for 2.5 years… So that comes up to around 30k.

Would they be able to help me if I call them?

“Please tell me what should I do? I have been wearing myself out… going to the both schools takeing classes… I am like half dead… i still cant decide…”

I’m confused too. Are you actually attending classes at both schools? That would mean you accepted both offers. Did you sign the financial aid packages for both schools? If yes, you may owe both schools money since usually you only get a full refund if you drop BEFORE classes start.

You seem to be bouncing all over the place regarding major. Maybe decide on which major is best and that will lead you to the best choice of schools. You will not be able to graduate from either school in a reasonable amount of time (2 yrs?) unless you declare a major and specialize in that area. Make it the area you MOST want to study. I know it’s hard. I also changed my major numerous times because I liked almost EVERYTHING. Beware, it can mean adding an extra semester or two to your plan which increases your overall cost.

If your main goal was to grow into your adult self, inspired by the most talented peers you could find in a campus-based setting rich with extracurricular opportunities then I’d recommend Columbia. Given your goal and your major, I don’t know that you could do any better than NYU with a $20K / year scholarship.
