In NYU, apply to first school but rejected and considered for second

Lets say I apply to CAS which is my first choice, but I get rejected and I am onto my second choice, which is tandon (poly), will I get some type of disadvantage because I was rejected with my first choice so getting into my second choice will be even harder? Is there rolling admissions to getting into ur second choice? Is there any disadvantage at all?

Getting into Tandon is harder than getting into CAS…so…

when I google Tandon it reads the acceptance rate is 75%

@intlnyu really? Where did you hear that?

omg lol… that is inaccurate that was when poly was not part of nyu. nyu bought poly and the campus in 2014 changed a lot of stuff…acceptanc rate - 31% this year…

@intlnyu is it really harder than cas tho? I thought cas was pretty hard to get into as well but harder than tandon. Where did u get the info?

Yes it is. For last year’s data I got the information from the official school of engineering open house conducted by one of the advisers at Tandon. This is posted as a video with a Spanish title on YouTube. These are official statistics.

For this year,

http://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2015/04/02/nyu-2015-admissions-data-shows-increase-in-applicants-and-selectivity.html

SoE acceptance rate was also very less (approx 31%).

Tandon is a school of NYU. NYU bought a school called Poly, and since those students cant go anywhere they became NYU students. If you seriously think that we are not smart, boy you are in for a surprise.

I’m ranked one of the ten best students in my country and received an international award for it. enuf said.

@intlnyu no i don’t think your not smart lol, its just that poly used to have a 70% acceptance rate but i didnt think it wud actually drop to 30% that fast, i thought it wud happen gradually. NYU is like my dream school and I want to major in CS which is available both at CAS and tandon, but I want to get into NYU so I didn’t know wat wud be easier but since u said tandon is harder, I guess i’ll put CAS then.

Also, that article shows nyu as a whole, not just tandon. U know someplace else I can see tandon acceptance rate?

YouTube. It shows last year’s rates. Listen closely to the narrator’s voice when the acceptance rate comes up.

I don’t see the reasoning behind your assumption. The acceptance rates might go down “gradually” if “Poly” still existed. But NYU basically BOUGHT “Poly” (and we received 100mill this on top of a 160 mill rn), and so it became a school of NYU. If the acceptance rate of Tandon was still 75%, NYU’s overall acceptance rate could not have dropped from 35% to 31%. It would have increased at least slightly.

Tandon’s acceptance rate is not 30%. @intlnyu is just a booster. Poly was affiliated with NYU for ten years during which they raised it from its mediocre past.

Tandon’s CS is an application oriented CS program where you receive a BS degree. CAS’ CS program gives you a BA degree.

@intlnyu I cant find the video on youtube, do you remember the title?

before you make any assumptions take a look at the professors from both schools and their work and how well that matches with your interests. Then apply to the one that suits you best. Don’t go by acceptance rates.

@TomSrOfBoston - Idk what you mean by a booster lol. Also, affliation ~= “school within NYU”.

When Poly was affliated, NYU had no ownership over it

go to 12:50 and listen carefully as the stat printed on screen is inaccurate and the narrator says so. FYI, those were last year’s stats.

This year’s was even lesser (approx 31%)

@intlnyu actually u can get a BS from CAS as well but they also giv it in the form of BA but I like NYU CAS but I always thought it was harder to get into. This video though said 36% acceptance rate and its probably gonna drop for this year so ur right. Do u know any info where I can get acceptance rate for CAS? Also, does nyu admit by major or by school?

Note - NYU’s overall acceptance rate last year was 35% (Stern - 13%, Tandon - 36%) and yes, it’s lower this year.

Idk about CAS. You should look for a similar open house video.

I don’t exactly know how NYU admits.

It’s safe to assume that SoE acceptance rate is 31% for this year or close to 30 as it always tends to be almost equal to NYU’s overall acceptance rate.
