My gpa is around a 3.9, and I had a 104 average last school year.
I'm just not the best standardized test taker.
I got around a 1780 on my first sat, and around a 26 on my first act. :|
But that's when I had not studied, I'm studying a lot for them now.

is your GPA unweighted ot weighted? are you in state? If you are in state and the GPA is unweighted… you just have to study a little bit and get a 27 or 28+ on the ACT or bring your SAT scores up to about ~1810 +… Also, your personal statement and EC’s are very important. Good Luck!

I have tons of EC’s and leadership stuff. I’m also not in state. I’m from Texas. And that’s my unweighted GPA. My weighted GPA is well over a 4.0. I’m also 12th in my class, then again, that’s out of around 130 kids.

Go for it.

Try retaking your SAT and ACT then you should have a better shot at UCLA.

One other thing, your personal statements (I believe there are two statements on the UC application) are your opportunity to sell yourself as a student worth admitting, and they are the part of the application in which you have the most control over. For each question, come up with three main points and drive them home, but don’t overdo it. You may have heard the stories of how 4.0 students have been turned away at UCLA and Cal, and I’m curious on how many of these students were rejected because they slacked off on the personal statements, thinking they had their acceptance letters in a bag.

I got in this year with a 4.0 uw/ 4.7 w and a 1940 Sat

I just BS’d my personal statements and still got in I don’t even think that they read them thouroughly

OP, you’ll want to calculate your UC GPA. This is for only 10th and 11th grade, uses just the UC’s so-called a-g courses, and (for OOS applicants) only weights AP courses. OOS honors courses are not weighted. If you don’t want to figure out all the details of the a-g courses right now, just use your academic courses and (if you took it in 10th or 11th grade) a year-long studio art or performing arts (drama, orchestra) course.

Once you’ve calculated your UC GPA, use [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/default.aspx) to find out your chances of admission.

Before you do any of the above: have you had the money talk with your family? UCs cost $50k a year for OOS students, and there is little to no financial aid. If you and your family cannot afford that amount for college, then save yourself the application fee and look elsewhere.
