In-Person Audition

Hello CC!

As a rising senior interested in MT, I’ve been trying to get my college application list set so I can sign up for auditions and have time to prepare for those auditions. I’d like to apply to UMich, and I was wondering if, after having sent the video application, they ask for an in-person audition, will they ask for the same monologues/songs/dances that they saw on the video? Or should the applicant prepare another set of audition pieces??

Thanks!

Hi palmier96,

The Michigan website states than one of your two live audition songs must be the same as the pre-screen. Make sure to read the website instructions very carefully, especially regarding the 16 bar limit. They are very strict on that. They do not specify that either monologue must be the the same for pre-screens and live. Dancing will certainly be different since they will teach you a few combinations in the live group audition.

As you go through the audition season you may find that some songs or monologues work better for you than what you had on the pre-screen. My son did the same songs live as his pre-screen but I think he switched at least one of his monologues.

Also, make sure to keep grades and test scores as high as possible since they will not even review your pre-screen unless you are accepted academically.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you so much!
