(In Progress) Ultimate Guide to May 2012 Crit Reading (list of answers)

Are you sure that the Dancer one was “amateur?” I believe one of the synonyms was someone who dabbles in something.

Couldn’t an amateur be someone who is serious about something but a beginner and therefore an amateur?

I’m not declaring that I’m right, that’s just my 2 cents.

Dilettante was in it too… Like the same as amateur…?

@JeremyS

I had the same logic at one point but the passage also used the phrase “sunday painter” which implies a real sense of amateurism since sunday painters don’t paint for a living

What were the answer choice one the amateur question? I can’t remember what I chose.

@eric
i thought dilettante was in the passage, not answers?

@shallow @eric yeah dilettante was in the passage & i think the answer was amateur

Did the Hispanic girl’s family view the doll hanging incident as traumatic, humorous, or educational?

I didn’t understand that one. The father and girl were laughing, and the mother was afraid. It didn’t make sense to me.

I wrote humorous because they were laughing, I did take into account the mom at first thought it was a bad sign

Hey was the CREATIVITY reading passage about arts and it had like a rabbit/duck drawing in the middle of the passage??? I took it internationally so…i think this one is a experimental. what do you think?

It’s humorous because I’m pretty sure the question said “in the end” or something along those lines, and the passage mentioned that her parents were laughing about it in the present day.

I thought it was educational because it taught her how to become a good mother.

@JeremyS: No, amateur is the opposite of professional, as in someone who does not do something for a living.
