Well i really like the setting of UCSC.
its the perfect location..
i dont wanna sound weird or anything, but i want my college experience to be amazing.
like parties, clubs, stuff like that.
is there any good parties at ucsc? like, for anyone that goes there, do you guys have 'FUN' like with other ppl and stuff? lol. cuz idk how ucsc is..
because, i WILL study hard, but i wanna enjoy as well.
please let me know. haha, thanks.

Well.....it depends.

There ARE parties here and there, but all too often a "party" will just turn out to be a kickback with lots of weed and perhaps some drinking. Don't let this deter you though, because people do like to drink, but there just isn't an overwhelming presence of "parties" here like UCSB.

You can have a lot of fun without partying though, you just have to be creative about it.

you'll find parties wherever you go if you look. and even if you go to a school like asu or ucsb, you'll still be able to stay away from the parties if you really want to. reputations don't really affect the fact that a college is a college, and you'll find students just like you wherever you, no matter what kind of student you are. the only difference between the schools is the number of each type of student there is. but if you try, you'll find your niche. it sounds like you like the environment at ucsc, and your environment and surroundings are ridiculously huge. and they are often overlooked. so if you enjoy yourself at SC...expore it more, take things day by day, and roll with it.

YEAH.. thats what i was thinking.
that no matter where i go theres gonna be ppl wanting to have fun that prolly think like me :]
lol
and thats good..
thanks for the replies
cuz yeah i really want a good education with all the fun and the GOOD college experience :]]

Honestly, if u want that, you'll find it wherever you go.

but come to UCSC anyway because you seem cool! =D

WOOOO :]]
ok! lol
i think i'd choose ucsc over MANY schools.. i really wanna go there.. its just that i had heard bad things about it.. like all the hippies and drugs and the lack of partying.. but im sure there has to be SOME partying there..right? and clubs and stuff woooo
:]

I've been able to find parties even during the summer. It just all depends on where you look and what exactly you are looking for.

w00! best way to waste your parents' money. I'm glad that clubbing is at the top of your priorities.

no i think he/she is saying that they would like to study hard and play hard. Learning to balance work and play is important. they arent saying that all they want to do is party, k? read the entire page

bananaslug- I undersand, I'm simply pointing out how unfortunate it is that our generation equates "fun" with binge drinking oneself into a stupor (because we cannot act on our emotions without alcohol?)

there is plenty of "fun" in Santa Cruz; it's a forest!

I've had way more fun bingedrinking myself into a stupor than doing linear algebra.

well i'm not in college... yet (i go in the fall) but my bro went to a small private catholic college and he partied a lot. There will be parties everywhere its just that the state U will be bigger and crazier than a small private

LOL yes!!

bbbf I agree with bananaslug's response...

But regardless

That post just made my day hahaha

Bring a little more of your sarcasm into these forums we need to liven this up a bit. Forget the Santa Cruz clubs...college forum is where the real party is at

lol, i agree with bananaslug as well.
i WILL study and do my best to get good grades BUT i also wanna party, andhave the whole experience of hook-ups and stuff like that you get me?
and from what you guys have told me UCSC seems to be a good place for that :]].

Damn I really hope that there will be parties. Of course, I grew up in the most boaring town in Southern California so ANY party will probably be a huge excitment for me. LOL

Honestly, as far as I can tell, we're pretty kicked back. Yes, people drink, but you don't hear about huge house parties 'cause yes, they'd get busted. Everyone I know gets a group of friends they like a lot and have private parties (plenty of drinking for all who partake) with their group. It may seem anti-social, but it's not, it's just smaller scale.

That said, I'm sure Porter and any one of the (statistically insignificant) frats would love to help with your harder partying.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen clubbing in SC. We've got our raves, but that's a whole 'nother scene (and one I'm rather fond of). You gotta go to SJ or SF for clubbing. Sorry.

Parties don't get much bigger than a house party here. They're no doubt fun, but as a freshmen its not like you can just waltz in. They're in no way close to the frat-party type thing you'd find at ASU or UCLA.

My freshman year (2006-2007) my neighbors went to a party seemingly every weekend and nearly every time they came back complaining about the party having been busted. Clubs (well, dance clubs) are non-existant here. On campus party-life is rather dull considering the RA's and CSO's are really (maybe excessively) on top of things and end the fun fast. The small apartment or house-sized parties can be really fun though... as can everything else here... but sometimes you just have to really look for it.
