In-School Suspension

I cheated on a test and got caught and then received an In-School Suspension for one day.

Will Colleges see this and will it affect me? I talked to the principal and he said that only he will know about this information and will not send it to colleges. Does that mean that colleges will not know i cheated?

Good job. If it’s not on your transcript or if it isn’t sent to the school (as per your principal’s words) then no, the college will not find out.

Academic dishonesty is definitely the way to go once you hit college. :)

But wont colleges see the inschool suspension and ask what it was for? I mean, my principal said he would not tell anyone about the cheating but not necessarily about the in school.

it depends on the school you go to. some private schools eliminate any record of suspensions, simply using them as temporary disciplinary actions. i also know of a couple of public schools that do the same thing.

bumpbumpbump

You are treading on thin ice. Look at the wording on the Common App. They ask the question in enough different ways that you would be lying if you said “no”. Even if the school does not report it, you would be lying if you did not report it.

Hopefully you should be good.

Keep close contact with your guidance counselor as well.

sorry did not realize this thread was 3 years old!

But wont colleges see the inschool suspension and ask

??

How will they see it if your school doesn’t report it???

Your colleges do NOT see your entire HS record …especially during the app process. Your school sends a transcript of your grades and the GC fills out a form. If the GC doesn’t report it on that form, then the colleges don’t see it.

you’re acting like each of your colleges is getting a box-sized copy of your high school file. They’re not. They’re only getting what the school sends…which isn’t much at all.

Many schools don’t consider “inside suspensions” as reportable offenses. They treat them like detentions…which also don’t get reported.

Many schools discipline internally precisely because the school recognizes that some offenses do not rise to the level of needing to affect your future in college

Exactly. but, learn from this!
