In search for colleges

Hello,

my S is an international student looking forward to study in the US.
The problem is, that he doesn't know the schools and he never went to the US.
He found several schools on college board.

It would be very helpful from you guys/girls to give me some advise about the schools he could get accepted to.

He is attending IB with score of 36 at the end of his junior year, in the top 25% of his class.
SAT I: 2100 points & Planing to take SAT II German, World History + maybe math

EC's:
Played soccer for 3 years in junior league.
Now he trains Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) - 2 years
He plays classical guitar in musical school - 3 years
The same with drums - 1 year
He also plays in a rock band, formed about 2 years ago. They have 20+ concerts trough Eastern Europe.

Social activity: (Service)
He teaches young children from poor families to play guitar. About 100 hours

Work:
He worked just one summer in vehicle inspection firm. - 2 months

Aid:
We are able to pay about 25,000$ a year for his study in the US. The rest could be in any form from need-based, to any kind of scholarship.

He's looking for urban schools, on the East coast or Canada. The possible majors are: business/political science.

Thank you for all your responses. =)

What schools did he find on college board?

He was interested in these, but he is always open-minded for new options.

McGill University
University of British Columbia
University of Toronto
University of Pennsylvania
University of Boston
Vanderbilt University

These are just the possible TOP universities for him. I’m posting this to get some kind of help with reach universities. He wants no safe universities because it is easier for him to go to the United Kingdom if he gets rejected from all top and reach universities.

Well, the Canadian posters will have to try to help with the Canadian Universities.

University of Pennsylvania is an Ivy League school. It is very prestigious and has an excellent business school. It is also very competitive to get into. This, as for anyone, is a super reach.

Vanderbilt University is another excellent school, and while it doesn’t quite have the cachet of the Ivy League schools, it is probably every bit as prestigious and only a slightly less competitive. I don’t think they have a business major though (someone correct me if I’m wrong). It does have political science. This is a reach (as it would be for anyone).

Boston University is a good, solid university. For many students, it is their top choice. But, this school is the least selective on your list. This is probably a match.

Have him look into these schools. All of these schools are very prestigious and very selective, and have business and/or political science (most have political science only). I know very little about any schools outside of the East Coast, so maybe someone else will help:

Cornell University (Ithaca, New York)
Columbia University (New York, NY)
Georgetown University (Washington, DC)
Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland)
Princeton University (Princeton, New Jersey)
Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island)
Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire)
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
Harvard College (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
Yale University (New Haven, Connecticut)

Now, the schools listed above are all VERY, VERY difficult to get into. There are other schools with excellent business programs, but are slightly less difficult to get into:

Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
George Washington University (Washington, DC)
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, New York)
University of Rochester (Rochester, New York)
Villanova University (Villanova, Pennsylvania)

I’m sure I missed some. This is just my opinion!

Thank you for your opinion, I really appreciate it =)

For Canada, you might want to look at York University. They have a very reputable business school.
