In Search of Drama Programs

I plan on majoring in Theatre/Drama in college. I am now a junior in high school. I have a 3.6 unweighted GPA, am President of the SADD club, student representative of Student Choir Boosters and the students of the school at Youth Steering Community, additionally I mentor freshmen. Freshman year I was placed on the Dean's List and nominated for Student of the Year. I have at least 20 hours of volunteer work.
In the theatre area I have performed in both classical and contemporary productions, ranging from Shakespear to McArthur. In the past I was a semi-finnalist in my cities scene and monologue contest. I plan on interning at my city's public theatre later on in the year.Additionaly, I have studied classical and musical voice. I recently applied to the Governer's School for the Arts.

My reach schools are definatly Rutgers, SUNY Purchase, NYU, CMU, and UCLA. I want to attend a school with a mahor emphasis in the classics, I plan on studying abroad, and the school must have an opportunity where graduating students are given the opportunity of showcasing their talents in front of an audience of agents, casting directors, and the such. My main concern with the Reach schools is that I will not be academically up to par and ability wise. I'm a good actress, (I usually recieve leads or challenging parts) but my community is small so there's really no gage of talent.

Any reccomendations? I really appreciate your help!

NYU and UCLA are good, but I don’t think I’d call them reaches necessarily, they’re both kind of big. I’ve seen both extremely talented and… some lesser talented get into both, depends what they’re looking for, as with most schools I suppose.
I recommend Boston University, it’s pretty amazing.
You may also want to consider Ithaca and Guthrie (Minnesota). I mean there are a whole bunch of good schools out there, but I’ve personally heard very good things about those.

When I was looking at that giant 12 part thread on this site back when I was auditioning for colleges, I gathered from whatever lists and opinions I found that the top acting schools (in no particular order because you want to be wherever is best for you) are Juilliard, Carnegie, Boston U, Rutgers, SUNY Purchase, North Carolina School of the Arts, and U of Minnesota (Guthrie).

Thanks so much! I’ll look into them!

My daughter goes to NYU. She is in the Stella Adler Studio. I think the training is excellent. She has grown so much as an actress. I could not believe the difference in her acting from even last year. I don’t know why so many people bad mouth NYU. It was also my daughters reach. I think NYU is an excellent place to learn to be an actor.
