I just received my Amherst decision letter, and wonder of wonders I was accepted! I was not expecting this at all since it seemed that too many things had gone wrong with my application for me to seriously be considered. Checking my login page a week or two ago I noticed two very disturbing problems. First, apparently they never received my second teacher recommendation. Secondly, for some reason unknown to man, they decided to waive my SAT I and SAT II score. It appeared as if they were using my ACT score instead (though it was substantially worse). Realizing that it was too late to inquire about these problems, I had basically decided to give up any hope of being accepted. I’m extremely happy about this acceptance, and somewhat puzzled. I don’t know whether I’ll matriculate since right now it’s my third choice school (after Williams and Dartmouth).

congratulations!

I'm not sure about matriculating now either. I still have to think about Swarthmore and Wellesley. I'm waitlisted at Columbia...who knows what'll happen with that.

I'm so confused.

why do you like Amherst less than W and D?

also please check out the amherst group, you might find info there helpful.

One of the reasons I currently prefer Williams and Dartmouth to Amherst has already been mentioned on this forum. It seems that those favoring Williams or Dartmouth are over the moon about their school. I don't get quite the same feeling from Amherst (although some of the posters have certainly proven their love for the school). Also, I have visited each school and while I thought Amherst was beautiful, Williams and Dartmouth were breathtaking. I don't know though. Part of the reason Amherst had fallen on my list is because I didn't feel I'd get in. Now that I've been accepted, I'm sure that it'll rise in my estimation. And who knows what the admitted student's weekends will bring (going to all three).
