In state - 3.78 uw gpa, 1200 SAT, 5 AP, strong essays

I feel like my son is on the border. His out of school activities are average. How much improvement do you think he’ll need on his SAT to be in the likely to get in category. Public high school in Federal Way.

You can’t count on getting in, so you need backup plans. Have you looked at any other schools yet? What is the desired major?

Human Centered Design Engineering ( HCDE ). He’s been accepted to Central and it appears Oregon State ( Admitted 1 day after he applied? Application shows “admitted” status )

Gotta love those rolling admissions schools! (Ours took a couple weeks, but same idea.)

I don’t really have any other schools to suggest for that major, unfortunately. And it’s engineering so you know it’s going to be competitive. You have to be prepared to make a difficult decision if you get into UW or Direct to College without getting direct to major, but you know you’re accepted for your major elsewhere.

For a kid applying to engineering, a strong grade in calculus will help a lot if he has that.
